I know that there is already a thread about how Texas is probably going to get whooped again, but I'm going to the game for the first time this year and I would like to know more about what to expect from the atmosphere. I've heard that it is an incredible experience. Of course I know that I'll be setting myself up for another heartbreak, but it would be great if the horns could break the streak and I could be there to see it. I've heard that the traffic will be really bad getting to the game. Any advice on how to deal with it? Any good stories out there from those of you that have been to the Texas-OU game?
I went my frshmen year at UT...that would be 1991 for those of you keeping track at home...and it was absolutely great. I ended up naked with a chick from SMU in the back of her Mustang GT. The seats were pushed down...it was awesome. Got hammered the whole weekend. Went to the beginning of the game but ended up chasing skirt the whole time. No clue who won. I wouldn't change a thing if I did it all over again. It was a great weekend.
whoa cowboy you can't just "..." over the best part there. That's like yada yada yada over the lobster bisque.
I know. I can't believe I didn't watch the game. If I knoew then what I know now I would've laid off the booze and broads and enjoyed the rivalry more. So ixnay that stuff I said about how I would not do anything different. I would have accomplished the same things but would have paid more attention to the ballgame. at 31 I am more into sports than I was at 18. Everyone is.
I'm going to be with my girlfriend, so I don't expect to end up naked in some stranger's car. That sounds like a pretty good story. I do expect to be pretty wasted though. Hopefully in celebration.
Been to every single one since 1999. It's an absolutely surreal experience: West End on Friday night you can feel the hatred flow. The constant sh*t talk and name calling is f'n amazing. Then the fairgrounds the next day is just incredible. The Fletcher's corny dogs, the beer in wax cups, and the tunnel on the south end zone.
I have 50 yard line seats in the OU section. I'm riding on the OU President's bus in the police motorcade to enter the stadium. Should be entertaining. I'm good friends with one of OU's biggest donors, so it's all free for me!
UT hasn't been representing as well as they should be at West End the past few years. It's kind of disappointing for ****-starters like me . Otherwise, the experience from the OU end is just as enjoyable. I'd advise sudents from both schools to go. It's not every day that you get to be a part of such an intense rivalry. Question to those who have been to Dallas for TX/OU recently: Does the Dallas Police Dept. still make all of the sidewalks "one way" the night before the game, to (hopefully) prevent fistfights between Texas fans and OU fans? The reason I ask is because the only time I went, during my sophomore year (1980), a drunk buddy of mine got arrested and thrown in jail for walking the wrong way on the sidewalk. Me and three other friends had to bail him out the morning of the game, and we made it to our seats just as the opening kickoff was taking place. Just wondering....
I had bought a ticket and intended on going with my roommate in Jester my freshman year. I made the mistake of letting her plan the whole thing and not asking questions about those plans. The Wednesday before OU weekend she asked me, so what are your plans for this weekend? I freaking went nuts on her. She knew when we bought our tickets together that I was planning on going with her and her friends. So I ended up selling my ticket to a friend for 25 bucks over cost and never trusted or hung out with my roomate from then on. And now, I sit here a bitter woman, always thinking about going, but I never do, because it's a tainted issue for me.
I went in 2002 and 2001 and didn't notice the sidewalk thing RMTEX, The West End both years was just a writhing mass of humanity, jerring crowds and drunk co-eds; there was NO ryme or reason to the movement. I was going to the University Of North Texas at the time so I could just pretend to be a UT fan, but mostly answered the calls of "BOOMER SOONER" with the North Texas "Caw-Caw...Tookey-Tookey"...hehehehe In 01' we had some friends from UT and Ou and got a huge limo and Drove up and down Deep Ellum to the clubs after the game...GOOD times. Not to mention the impromptu fights in the Hotel elevator and hallways between alcohol fuled frat-daddy's(yes I'm guilty as well...DTD...)
Just got back from the Torch Light Rally... not much energy... But, Chance, your song got played again as the exit tune, definetly the highlight of the rally!
