Final Score...Temple 79, Texas 65. Flame me if you want, but I still say that Rick Barnes is a very mediocre basketball coach. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
I picked them to lose. ------------------ Forget LHutz, Bob Rainey is by far the coolest poster in cc.net history!
You've converted me RMTex. UT is stuck with two coaches who can't win big games. ------------------ www.swirve.com...The reason Al Gore invented the internet.
If its any consolation, Indiana State bumped OU out of the tourney I also picked Temple to win...Barnes' teams have trouble versus the zone so the score should not be a surprise. The postseason hasn't been friendly to Barnes. Bring on New Mexico State! ------------------
Oh great, here we go... Might want to give Mack a chance with his own team and give his players a chance to mature before you pass that kind of judgement on him. Don't quite think it's his fault for example that Roy and BJ dropped those balls against Oregon. 11-0 next year, Rose Bowl bound!!!!! ------------------ "We're not settling for just getting in the playoffs." Rick Barnes is an excellent coach. Texas overachieved this year. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. Believe.
Go Temple. Lynn Greer has MOOCHIE LIKE HANDLES!! DID YOU HEAR ME! MOOCHIE-LIKE!! ------------------ Note: It was my cowhead. I started the cowhead craze, and my cowhead inspired Mooch to step up and bring us a victory. Thank you for your time.
41 - 22 at halftime to Temple. Rick Barnes is the worst coach in the history of college basketball. I take back everything nice I've ever said about him. ------------------
I bleed burnt orange, so this was painful. Ut has alot of fickle, johnny-come-lately fans, lol. When I saw that we drew Temple in the tourney, I thought "oh ****." That was the worst team we coulda picked. You need good shooters to beat a zone, and UT doesn't have them. UT has athletes, not basketball players. To put things in perspective, UT's hot streak came at the expense of an ISU team that lost to Baylor and a MU team that didn't have Kareem Rush. I knew if UT didn't hit over 40 % of it's shots, they would lose. I'm not sure TJ Ford is the answer, not sure if he's a good enough shooter to help us. ------------------ "norm, would you like to buy an indian scalp ? This deal isn't gonna make or break me Norm, so don't jerk me around." Harry Carey "Norm, if I had a mohawk scalp, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you."
Don't disparage that ISU win. Baylor and Hampton should send us thank you cards, cause it was Texas that showed the rest of the nation that Jamaal Tinsley can be sucked into a game of one-upmanship, Rancik and Shirley aren't any good, and of you cover Sullivan and Horton their worthless b/c they can't play defense. The problem with Texas' offense isn't so much that they've got no shooters, they just don't have anyone who can create their own shot, TJ Ford can break down a defense and create a shot for others, especially if Owens, Thomas and Boddicker start becoming a consistent offensive force down low. Forcing the defense to honor Owen's fallaway jumper or whatever Thomas can throw up there(gets good shots, but has no touch) opens up a lot of things for pentration by Ford, who is quick and a kick out to Evans or Mouton. ------------------ The Rockets will be the NBA champions. GR*-1: Your assesment is correct about the Horns win streak. In regard to Ford...you saw how the press/trap was the beginning of the mini come back in the second half right...well, I watched every game at the High School State Tourney last week, and Ford (if you haven't seen him yet)is all that and a bag of chips. First of all, he loves to drive to the hole. Second, the guy brings new meaning to getting in your pants. He averages 8 steals a game for the year, and 7 of those would be of the pick your pocket kind, not cheating in a passing lane. The kind goes 110mph on D and completly "gloves" the guy bringing up the ball. Before his games, I was like 8 steals per game...how does he get that...he only has 2 in the first 2 quarters.....then BAM, they went into a half court trap and that poor PG on the other team never had a chance. 6 picks in the second half! I think he can definitly bring in a spark with his defensive play and agressive ball handling. ------------------ In the end there will be no judges...only witnesses to my greatness.
Anyone who insults Barnes is an idiot. Can you name any other coach who's gotten so much out of so little? The Horns lost four starters coming into the season: Mihm, Muoneke, Clay, and Ivan Wagner. It's amazing how much we've managed to overachieve this year with the likes of Owens, Boddicker, Evans, and co...We've beaten a ton of tournament teams: Ok. State twice Illinois Mizzou Iowa State California Indiana I think we had a helluva year, and I loved every minute of it. I stormed the court after the ISU game and I look forward to doing it again after we beat Kansas next year. HOOK EM. ------------------ "Oh No..." -Bill Walton in 97 just before Stockton's buzzer beater
Depends on how much weight you give to the tourney. The team overachieved this season, true. 25 wins was exceptional. But we've been bounced early in the NCAAs twice. And those players yesterday didn't look ready to play the game. They got run off the court in the first half because they had no clue how to beat the zone. The coach has to take the blame for that. I wonder how much it would take to lure Mark Few over from Gonzaga. ------------------
hmm..i think this was justa bad matchup for us..barnes couldnt have saved us here..my pick to win it all is arizona..theyre scary and are playing well.. ------------------ How Sweet It Is! How Sweet It Is! Gene Peterson on the rockets winning the 1995 championship over the Orlando Magic
I'd sacrifice regular season success for a single tournament run. I've followed too many teams, from the Oilers to the Astros to the Horns' football team, that piled up gaudy records but couldn't win when the stakes were highest. I'm not going to settle for mediocrity. Don't tell me that loss didn't mean anything. Don't tell me that those guys looked prepared, or that they just got beat by a much better team. The coach takes the heat for the loss, and he should. I didn't say they would fire the guy. I'm just venting frustration at the piss-poor performance I saw out there. ------------------
