I never knew this was in our Texas Constitution.

    The Texas Constitution
Article 1 - BILL OF RIGHTS
    Section 4 - RELIGIOUS TESTS
No religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office, or public trust, in this State; nor shall any one be excluded from holding office on account of his religious sentiments, provided he acknowledge the existence of a Supreme Being.

what kind of BS is this??

No religious test, as long as you believe in God?

isn't that last clause a religious TEST!?

it should be modified...but it's not enforced, so what's the point?

It should be modified. I doubt we've ever had it come up, but we may in the future.

That's what people said about that stupid sailor/ship act law that the Justice Department is using to go after Greenpeace.

    i'm not aware of that...

listen, there are all kinds of stupid laws in the books about tying up your horse before entering a place of business...but ultimately they're just words on paper, because there's no means of enforcement. if they tried to enforce it, then you'd see someone take it before the court...and win.

i'm just thinking there are bigger things to worry about.

The Texas state constitution is the biggest joke in the history of historical documents. It's, what, 200 pages long. There are so many redundant laws in that thing, it's a miracle any of them are enforced.

What's the problem? Pretty much every religion (with the possible exception of Wiccan) acknowledges a "supreme being".

So all you got to do is say "yes! I believe in a supreme being" Course you don't have to say which one.

    ;)
