Not sure if anyone here cares or not, but it's that time of year. Time for the thinning of the herd. A couple of thoughts: -Is it true that each district is sending 4 teams to the playoffs?? That's way too many teams. Look at how many teams have losing records. -The 2 best teams in the state IMO (Southlake Carroll and Euless Trinity) are set to meet in the 2nd round. This could be a game for the ages. Too bad it won't be in the finals. -Good to see Odessa Permian back in the playoffs after a 10 year absence. GO MOJO!! Here are the 5-A matchups:
we play you guys shannon. don't worry. we played you guys six times in five years, and lost all six meetings. and why the hell are we playing at Rhodes and not a neutral?
They want to make it more painful for all the Falcon fans, having to make the trek home all the way from Katy... Watch, now the Tigers are gonna lose... Paww Waww would be proud.
here are games i would be interested in seeing. Baytown Lee vs. North Shore the woodland vs westfield dulles and pearland i'm glad that they decided to go with top four teams.
How'd Midland Lee do so bad this year? Man I've really never cared about HS football. But seeing the Tigers beat the previously-unbeated-for-two-years SL Carroll Dragons in the Alamodome a few years ago was hella exciting...
They had some key players quit the team this year. Not sure why. Oh, and Cedric Benson doesn't go to school there anymore.
Stratford is 9-1. They play Chavez on Saturday. I've never heard of Chavez before. Chavez is 5-5. I said, CHAVEZ IS 5-5. In the playoffs. Yeah.
Only 5A sends 4 teams everyone else still sends 3. I'm a little mixed about 4 teams because on the one hand you do have some schools that shouldn't make it, especially if you have a 6 team district. On the other hand though the 3A district I am in would have benefited from having 4 teams. The UIL split up one of the East Texas 3A districts and sent 3 schools south to our district and 3 schools North. we got the 3 playoff qualifiers from the last 3 years and the 3 last place teams went North. In essence we now have six teams out of 8 that have gone to the playoffs for the last 3 years. So that means 3 teams that have made the playoffs the last 3 years are going to be shut out. By itself it doesn;t seem like a huge deal but consider this; our bi-district partner is a 6 team district. In that district only one of the current teams has been to the playoffs the last 3 years. That one team did not make the playoffs this year. The team that finished last in our district played the 1st and 2nd place teams in the other district and beat them both by more than 20 points. It's tough going into district play to motivate your kids knowing you'll probably have it handed to you for 7 games. It's worse knowing that if you were in the other district you'd probably be district champs.
While undefeated, North Shore has been disappointing this season. They don't seem to be blowing teams out like they have in the past.
Assuming Montwood and Permian both get out of the first round.....Montwood is going DOWN! 2 of Permian's 3 losses were by 3 points and the other loss was against Euless Trinity, the defending state champs. They're 2 plays away from being 9-1. Yes, I'm a T-shirt MOJO fan.
http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou061115_ac_lamarquefootball.3c74bd97.html By Joshua Buckley / Galveston County Daily News LA MARQUE — Two days before the start of high school football playoffs, school officials have suspended Cougars senior starting quarterback Durkelyn Haynes from the football team. Haynes, 17, is charged with possession of a controlled substance (Xanax), which carries a possible jail term of up to a year, as well as a fine of up to $4,000. According to La Marque police reports, a vehicle was stopped in the 1100 block of Cedar at 2:24 a.m. Tuesday for a traffic violation. Officers reported finding a plastic pill bottle with the outside label ripped off. Police allege the bottle contained 34 Xanax pills. Haynes was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance. He was released after posting $2,500 bond at 3:15 p.m. After learning of the arrest, La Marque athletic director and head football coach Bryan Erwin decided to suspend Haynes from the team. “Durkelyn has been indefinitely suspended from the team,” Erwin said. “Based on the preliminary report we had, we decided to make that suspension for disruption of team unity.” Haynes had started all 10 games for the District 23-4A champion Coogs. He threw for 1,438 yards and 20 touchdowns this season, along with rushing for 544 yards and three scores. Erwin said junior Jarius Kerlegan would start for the Coogs in their playoff game against El Campo on Thursday at The Rig in Pearland. Kerlegan saw limited action this season, completing 9-of-19 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns. He’s also thrown three interceptions. Kerlegan is the younger brother of Larry Kerlegan, who led La Marque to the Class 4A, Division II state championship in 2003.
^ Idiot... I went to Pearland, so I got to show some love for the Oilers!!! They should go deep, but they always run into North Shore... Looks like some good matchups...Southlake C is pretty amazing, so I don't see how they will be beat...Apparently, SC and Euless Trinity, both 5A champions of late will meet in the second round if they win their 1st round games...That will be a great football game...
