drove by it this afternoon and it was pretty bad. Too bad. Luckily it was being renovated and everything of value was out at the time. Fire marshal says Texas Governor's Mansion blaze appears deliberate
ya from what I saw on the news that it was completely destroyed, everything inside is burned. the ironic part was that they where under renovations to install fire sprinklers
Wow, updawg I hadn't even heard this happened -- crazy, seems like this should be big news, but they haven't even cut into the sports today. Arson at the govs mansion -- this could get interesting...
I thought there was a gate around the mansion. Don't they have a security guard at least? Isn't this the mansion right next to the state capitol in Austin?
i always thought the gov's mansion was too easy to get to. there's not a huge lawn in front of it. people not respecting history or historical places? i'm not surprised.
WOW, that's terrible. Glad they had most of the historical items out of the mansion during the blaze (paintings, furniture etc.)
It's a shame that, if some ******* was going to burn down a building with historical value, that he didn't at least wait until the governor (who is currently in Europe) was inside of it. These things always seem a bit suspicious anyway.
Maybe it was one of Perry's spurned gay lovers... I'm not the only one who remembers those rumors, right?
I read in the Chronicle the state is willing to listen to the arsonist's message if he comes forward. The arsonist was praised for setting the fire at night in an unoccupied building. Seriously, when did Texas hire Chief Wiggum and the Springfield PD to solve this case?
Mr. v3.0, sir, you by no means did anything wrong. Post away as many Simpsons references as possible as they are enjoyed by all. Thank you so much . Gracias. " They're China's problem now, boys..."
I don't know how someone just walks in to the Govnenor's masion and set this ablaze w/o ANYONE noticing. Sounds fishy to me...
There was, incredibly, only one guard at the mansion and he was at the back. The blaze was started with a Molotov Cocktail thrown against the front door. This isn't good reading... From the Statesman - Questions were raised last fall about whether enough security was in place at the historic Texas Governor's Mansion that was heavily damaged by fire early Sunday, but additional security was overruled, two sources confirmed Wednesday. The revelation came as other officials acknowledged that at least two security cameras guarding the 152-year-old mansion were "not operational" when the blaze broke out, though another camera documented a shadowy figure hurling an object at the front door — immediately followed by flames. Fire department officials said there was one state trooper on duty at the mansion the morning of the fire. The possible security lapses at the mansion are part of the ongoing investigation into the fire, according to the two officials familiar with the inquiry, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the case publicly. "All this is being looked at. Trust me," said one official. "I wouldn't be surprised if some heads roll." According to the sources, officials with the Governor's Protective Detail, which usually provides security at the mansion, argued for additional security staffing when Gov. Rick Perry and his family moved out in October to make way for a mansion restoration project, but they were overruled by top officials at the Texas Department of Public Safety. http://www.statesman.com/news/content/news/stories/local/06/12/0612mansion.html
Regardless of security lapses, there is still some molotov cocktail throwing anarchist b*stard who needs a serious Texas sized ass whuppin'.
