I remember back in college we used to go see all the Texas country guys is anyone still putting out Texas music or maybe a new group that someone who has not listened for years should check out?
surprisingly enough, the only post-grads i know who still frequently listen to texas country like pat green, cory morrow, roger creager, etc. are aggies. REK is about the only "texas" country artist i still really enjoy.
My roommate is a big texas country music fan. Some names (besides those already mentioned) that I can remember him listening to off the top of my head... Aaron Watson Eli Young Band Adam Hood Brandon Rhyder Randy Rogers Band Hayes Carll Bleu Edmondson Cross Canadian Ragweed (not really sure if these guys fit in Texas Country, but they are decent) I don't know if you'll like all of these guys, but I figure at least one or two should work.
I grew up with Carll in The Woodlands. I get a kick out of seeing him play this country stuff. Let's just say he wasn't in that crowd growing up. That said...he's very very good and is a rising star in the Americana genre. I'd suggest buying his new album...
