Arrived at the theatre around 4:45 about 60 people already inline and the screener started at 7:30 In the tradiiton of the old one this remake does a pretty good job. They focus more on Leatherface rather than the family. And this time they actually show his face and story behind it. Kind of a little Blairwitch twist at the end. Very gory and Very horrific if you have a weak stomach I do not suggest you go see it. Because this is Halloween month I give it an A- for scare tactics. Alittle side note I found it extremely comical that people inline were spreading the rumor, it was a true story and they never found the guy. Actually it's taken from the Ed Gein serial killer that inspired the movie to be made.
It is interesting that the movie Ed Gein, which is very literally based on Ed Gein's life, did very poorly, while the movie loosely based on his deeds became a cult classic. And this remake is poised to do fairly well.
Does anyone have any relevant info on the real story? I've seen both the old one and the remake (with Renee Zellweger and Matthew McCounaghey), but I likely will not see the new one (wife hates gore). Who was this guy and how many people did he kill?
Yeah, that's what my friend was doing. He had just seen the original last week, and the next day, he was talking about it. I told him that I read it took place somewhere else, and not in Texas. (I think I actually read it off the BBS, but I'm not sure.) He didn't really buy into it and he claimed he looked it up later on the internet to see what happened, and somehow he ended up with it being true. I don't know how because when I look it up on the internet I get several sites that explain how it is NOT true. Well anyways, he tries to shove it into my face by saying, "No, it's not in some OTHER state," and he also tries to tell other guys about the house, and the guy who is out free because he has a cousin who worked at where they held him. That day, I looked it up and found the real story, then the next day I had a little fun.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre is NOT a true story, but is partly based, as mentioned, on the story of Ed Gein. Here's some info: http://www.houseofhorrors.com/gein.htm
I rented the original on DVD last weekend, and despite its low budget, it's really a well-made film. The director (Tobe Hooper) did a great job of implying gore rather than shoving it in your face. Plus, it also has its moments of humor (albeit black humor). I can't imagine that the remake can compare, but I'll probably see it out of curiosity.
Houstonrocketss: Your review of the movie is not complete until you give details to how hot Jessica Biel looked in the movie.
i just read the account posted by Faos...i think reality is scarier than the fantasy, quite frankly. sick.
Thanks for the info. I remember the part about the soup bowls fashioned from human skulls.....argggh. That is scarier than any movie.
Psycho, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and Silence of the Lambs aren't even the best movies that are based on deeds of Ed Gein. That honor would go to a movie done in 1974 called "Deranged". I have never seen it, but being familiar with the Gein story (I have an interest in serial killers and why they do what they do), reading summaries about "Deranged" make me feel that it is the most faithful re-telling of this Wisconsin monster.
Actually, Hannibal Lecter wasn't based on Gein. "Buffalo Bill" was the character in Silence of the Lambs that was based on him...
Ed Gein actually only killed 2 women. Most of the atrocious things that they found at his place were from corpses he dug up.
My apologies.....even with blood soaked on her after she offs one of her friends I would still do her. That A$$ would not quit all through the movie.
I know one thing in that movie ed gein they showed a flash of this Hot babe wearing a german soldier outfit..she looked HOT! who was that woman?
I'm not 100% sure if it's the truth, but a guy on another message board said thats what he read in an article about Gein.
Yup, that's true. He was only convicted of killing two women. The rest of the bodies found in the place (around 15 of them) were bodies he dug up... Check out his story here... Warning! Link has a grainy black and white picture of a dead disembowled woman (if you're freaked out by that sort of thing)...
From what I understand from the article on houseofhorrors.com he killed 2 elderly women in his town, but that the human remains in the house and on the property added up to AT LEAST 15 bodies. Any way you look at it, that's quite disturbing.
I had a friend in college that used to eat cereal out of a human skull. Don't know where he got it though.
