Now that the season's over, it looks like we're picking around 15th (correct me if I'm wrong). I think it'll be interesting to start compiling our draft wish lists as the prospects start emerging. So here goes nothing. Rnd 1 - Corner - Malcolm Jenkins, Vontae Davis Rnd 2 - End - Michael Johnson, Corey Wootton Rnd 3 - Best Available Defensive Player - Patrick Chung, Sean Weatherspoon Rnd 4 through 7 - Best Available Overall Player As I see more, I'll fill in the rest.
I thought for sure we were done with that. We spent them on the Schaub deal, but it was only last year and the year before that's picks. I think.
Jenkins will not be there at 15. Johnson will be a 1st round pick Chung will be a late 1st-mid 2nd rounder.
Yeah, they got our 2nd rounders in 2007 and 2008. And Mel Kiper's first Mock has us taking Taylor Mays at #15.
1)We're not drafting a corner in the first three rounds 2)yes we have a second rounder and two thirds 3)Johnson will drop lower than 15
I understand that Jenkins will be a top ten pick. Personally, I think he'll go between 6 and 8. That's why I put a couple options for each slot. I had us going corner in the first because I feel there won't be a DE left on the board for us that wouldn't be a huge reach. I just think it'll be interesting to see these lists change, and that's why the thread is here.
jenkins wil be gone, and johnson will be gone in the first. If we got both of those players in the first two rounds I would piss my pants
I started a draft thread a couple weeks back with a list of prospects if you're interested...http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=157331. But I have to disagree on that there won't be DE left on the board at #15, if guys like Everette Brown and Greg Hardy declare, you could potentially have Orakpo, M. Johnson, Brown, and Hardy all going in the first round (none of them would be a reach at #15) w/ Selvie and Jackson not far behind at all.
This is a very premature statement and potentially a false statement. There is no guarantee that Dunta will be re-signed and if he isn't, CB automatically becomes our greatest need. Even if Dunta does come back, if Jenkins or Davis is available at #15, it would be extremely difficult for the Texans to pass on them because both of them are VERY good CB prospects.
The Texans already have too much money invested in corner. They are currently developing Bennet and Moulden........ and one of the most glaring needs that has failed to have been addressed since the inception of the franchise is an elite ballhawking safety. I would be surprised if a safety is not taken in the 1st or 2nd round (i.e. William Moore or Taylor Mays)
Taylor Mays is a very good player, however, the one knock on him right now is that he can't cover at the next level. I don't want a Roy Williams lite. We already have guys back there that can't cover well.
Taylor Mays is at the top of my wishlist at pick #15. Like just about everyone, I want to see defense addressed early and often in this draft; but I would like to pick up another O-lineman if one of value can be found later in the draft. Two things I don't want: I do not want a late pick used on a receiver, and I do not want Orakpo from UT if he is still around at 15.
Orakpo was playing like a beast before his injury. I wouldn't mind the Texans drafting him. It's great having a second round pick this year
I'm just worried about the track record of UT football players going into the NFL in recent years. It's not just me - i heard John McClain talking about how many NFL Personnel types share that concern.
