All hyperbole duly noted...I would like a guy who can scheme some plays and coach an OL to execute them.
We need more underneath "rush" routes using our wideouts. More quick hitting short passing. Its a staple of the WCO and even more so for a team that knows it has blocking issues. Tank or Stef should be eating bbq chicken over and over in these routes. Im trying to find these examples the last few games and while I can spot one every other series the majority of the time our wideouts are on long winded patterns and then RBs/TEs having to leak out to give CJ his safety valve. Its a recipe for disaster with this OL.
CJ mentioned he spent a bunch of time over the off-season watching other teams and QBs best plays. Supposedly Slowik wasn't having any part of it.
Where did that come from? I thought it was the opposite with Slowik giving CJ a bunch of QB's videos for him to watch
People seemed impressed by Slowik last year, but I think that mostly had to do with how awful we were in they years prior. The offense WAS better, but we were still a middle of the pack offense. I didn't really see the "guru" stuff. I was surprised at the HC interviews. I didn't think he was nearly ready for that but in hindsight, I wish he'd gotten someone to bite.
I get why Bobby Slowick has got so many plaudits coming into this season. Slowick is intelligent, has NFL coaching lineage and a connection to the NFL analytical people as a former analyst for PFF. The Texans overperformed expectations last year and won a playoff game. What we are seeing now is the product of an offensive line failing to gel and Slowick's inexperience. Maybe, just maybe there is so much tape on the Shannahan offense that smart coordinators have adjusted. Even with Mixon on the bench and this supposedly dynamic receiving corps, the Texans did not scheme much differently than they have before. We have not seen Slowick be able to make many adjustments on the fly, either. I like coaches who are able to adjust their systems to suit the talent of their team and their opposition. I think Slowick and Ryans can and should improve. I like that Demeco mentioned that all options are on the table with the offensive line. The fate of the season will probably come down to this.
Need to move away from the outdated Shannon system. Only works well against bottom tier teams when you have the lead.
I don't necessary agree with this.... It's all about knowing what plays to call in what situation.. You can not be robotic and you have to know when to improvise your game plan. Right now all the DC's have been watching the Texans and they all see the same pattern... Hell people on this board see the pattern, they are calling the plays before they happen. Bobby needs to do the following Learn when to go away from the game plan Adjust as the defense adjust Stop being so predictable. Listen to your players and they are in the trenches Give CJ the authority to audible out of a play.. So when he gets to the line he should have 3 plays T_Man
He's definitely starting to become more visibly frustrated during games on the sidelines. Didn't he throw his helmet in that last game or did I just imagine that?
The Shannahan system has been figured out. Slowik who only was good cause he knew the concepts (not because he was exceptionally smart or anything) is in big trouble. He's not going to be able to adapt. The sooner we move away from him, the better. Only the truly elite can survive, LaFleur and McVay can adapt cause they were the best of the bunch. Random assistant guys like Slowik who just happened to be in the same room won't make it long. Even McDaniel's dolphins offense has been sputtering, with or without Tua.
Nope. He def threw it SM Highlights on X: "CJ Stroud throws his helmet in frustration https://t.co/kPiBBOIiah" / X
I've been meaning to mention this for the last couple of weeks... I've always been of the mind that following a turnover (and especially in opponent's territory), first play is a shot at the end zone. If in your own territory, a deep shot. It seems like Slowik NEVER does this. He definitely didn't last week and it sure felt like he didn't the week before. What does this guy have against putting the pedal to the metal and going for the dagger?!
