Steelers and Broncos below us are just as good as us. The only advantage we have is Titans, Jaguars and Colts.

With all of the loses this offseason we should be lower. We are one injury away from starting waiver wire trash at just about every position.

What teams are in clearly better shape with their rosters? Can you give an in-depth analysis of the depth present - in terms of player comparisons - on those teams that isn't on the Texans?

If only we had depth like the AFC champion Patriots, who were using a receiver as their nickel corner. :(

You ignored the main question. In a ranking, to look at the Texans without considering context (how this roster stands up to other teams) is kinda silly and reeks of b****ing just to b****.

If you look at my post I do consider the other teams below us, especially AFC since it is easier to measure and our main competition. The Steelers and Broncos have teams that are just as good as ours, our benefit is playing in an easier division. As we lost players the Broncos added Manning and now a nice TE weapon for him. With that defense they can compete with us and are a serious threat with home field advantage in the playoffs. The Steelers, although oneyear older, are just as good as us too, as shown last year, giving that they keep Mike Wallace (or even with a 1st round pick instead they might be fine too).

I don't really have time to put together a report but feel free to disprove my statement and I'll give it a look over.

Huh? The Broncos do NOT have as good a team as the Texans. I don't care that they were in the playoffs. They were 8-8 with some of the flukiest narrow wins I've ever seen one team have. And I think it's quite premature to put any weight on Peyton Manning. Until we actually see him throw repeatedly in camp, I'm not losing much sleep over Denver. PS: Your "nice TE weapon" had all of 28 catches last season, has a career high of 36, and will be 30 years old. The AFC balance of power has clearly shifted!

My logic is this: the Texans were pretty clearly the No. 6 or No. 7 team at the end of this past season. They were in the divisional playoffs, mostly outplayed Baltimore in Baltimore, easily could have won. These are the changes from that team, looking forward to September 2012:

    Yates replaced by Schaub
    Winston replaced by Butler
    Brisiel replaced by Caldwell
    Dreessen (TE2) replaced by Graham
Ryans (part-time player) replaced by Sharpton
Vickers (part-time player) replaced by Casey
Allen (part-time player) replaced by Harris

Sorry, upgrading your QB spot from a fifth-round rookie to an annual top 10 guy outweighs losing mostly part-time guys. Especially when you still have a full draft to further fix the other losses. I'd personally rank the Texans in the 2-4 range, but I can understand holding them around 6 if you're a bit nervous. Lowering them is asinine and screams drama queen.

The upcoming draft has become more important; we need more viable ready to go backups (Reed) and less one year plus projects (Harris).

I trust the FO to do whats in the best interest of the team. Depending on the board, there will be a mix of both types. Sometimes the BPA is so talented but raw you have to gamble on taking them and letting them develop one year.

I'm hoping a full year of watching JJo showing how to be a professional CB, Wade and Vance teaching, and mentorship from AJ80 will have Harris ready to step in and produce. Because we need it production from him now, we didn't need it last year when we had Allen and KJ fighting for the second spot. Barwin was a project of sorts who didn't make an impact until his 3rd year.

It really seems like the FO is gearing up to make the Texans a perennial contender. I support it.

*Barwin suffered a season ending injury in the first game of his 2nd year. In his first season he got to play in all 16 games.

I would have classified him as a viable ready to go backup.

The Texans have certainly lost some good players, but I fail to see why so many people are ready to slap that panic button when a pretty big amount of our core talent is returning and our FO usually does at least a decent job in the draft.

It's the Texans Syndrome, I tell you. Every time something good happens (like last season) the fans invariably brace themselves for something absolutely disastrous to follow in its wake.

    Go Texans!

And what team isn't??? It seems like you really love to just complain. For the love of god we lost a #2 tight end, a couple middle of the road offensive linemen, Jason Allen. The loss of Demeco hurts, but he was making too much and he wasn't really producing or playing every down. Mario we never had a chance to retain and our defense was pretty bad ass without him. You act like we don't have 8 draft picks and you act like we aren't going to sign anyone. And you act like our rookies have no potential to improve on defense.

Despite the losses this team still has A TON of upside this year.

I don't know why anybody pays attention to these. I used to read them myself. Rankings mean zip at the pro level.

You're spot on, but this has been going on long before the Texans came around... remember this?...
