Ravens just lost..but we still have something to prove..have we gotten better!!...aimin for the that 9-7 bay babe!
I think every Texans fan would just like the satisfaction (and publicity) of adding a notch in the Titans Loss Total.
Just like aggies are happy losing every game but a win against the longhorns, makes their season. 12-1 and a first round bye. How sweet it is! Who's going to game next wknd? Maybe some pregame tailgating with the enemy titan fans?
Dude. Take that back, right now. Yes we know the Texans have sucked for a long time and we'll take every bit of hope we can get, but comparing us to Aggies? That's just low.
The "can't stop David Garrard on 4th down play" and "Sage Rosencopter" are coming back to bite us in the ass now. Those were two sure wins basically. We could be sitting at 8-5 right now. Hell, we SHOULD be sitting at 8-5 right now.
Yes....but ya gotta give the team props from coming back from an 0-4 hole. They could have just folded...and a lot of teams would have. I'm not even a Texans fan but I'll give them props for that.
matt schaub with 400+ yards, its a shame we still havent seen him play a full season, crack teh 3000 yard mark, and get the kinks out and stop throwing so many picks. Congrats to Slaton for breaking 1000, though matt ryan will probably win RotY and only have A. Davis field punts, maybe JJ for just kickoffs. maybe
Yeah I think the Jacoby at PR experiment needs to be called off. Sure he can break off a huge gain...but as many boneheaded mistakes I've seen him make (let the ball bounce a few times then grab it..., not calling fair catch in obvious situations...) They're happening way too many times for my liking. 6-3 since the start of October.
Do you think that every game would have played out the exact same way had they won either of those two games?
Si! Even if sage wins the colts game, there would be no way schaub gets benched. The miami game could have gone either way, since eugene should have just fallen to the ground after his interception. It's like serendipity all over again...
We've now lost 2 games we should have won (Indy#1, Jacksonville#1) and won 2 games we should have lost (Miami, Green Bay), so I think the season has actually evened out. That being said, it's hard not to wonder where we would be right now if we had finished the deal against Indy and put a spy on Gerrard. I mean, isn't that just a normal part of being a fan? At 8-5, we would obviously be right in the middle of the playoff talk.
But doesn't the play calling and tendencies change based on your situation? For example, hasn't the defense gotten more aggresive in the past few weeks? Perhaps that is because there has been "nothing to lose"? Had they had a couple more wins, the defense may have continued to play status quo. Perhaps if they were 7-5 going into yesterday's game and the exact same scenario played out, Kubiak may not have chosen to go for 2 when it was 19-14.
The D has been a little better, but I don't think its a nothing to lose attitude as the cause. I think getting Dunta back has been huge. Also against the Titans, the first time if Andre doesn't uncharacteristically drop two TD passes its a different game. Don't forget that Kubiak's teams are good at home and good in Dec. Bring on Tennessee!
I think the defense is better because they're trying new things...because they're running plays that are putting pressure up front more than they were previously.
Definitely seeing more pressure from the D-Line than before. I guess with all the Chron articles suggesting to have Richard Smith fired, Richard Smith must of read those articles and pulled out his "I'm going to get fired, run the RIGHT defenses" playbook.
Here's who they've won against, and their current records: Miami (8-5) Detroit (0-13) Cincinnati (1-11) Cleveland (4-9) Jacksonville (4-9) Green Bay (5-8) So they still only have 1 game all season against a team with anything remotely close to a winning record, the Miami game. And while that was a good win, it was just in the last minute, by one, and a home game. If they can finish the season 2-1 or better, I think that will be real nice momentum, will include at least one more win against a "decent" team (depending on whether you consider the Bears, at home, for the last game of the season a godo team - could be, though, if Chicago is still holding out hope for that last playoff spot). Anyway, not trying to be a downer here. Just holding out hope that they still had a playoff shot is like getting excited about the Astros coming within 4 or 5 games of sneaking in the last week of the season - not going to happen. That said, it doesn't take a Rocket scientist to note that the things keeping them from being a playoff team (heck, even a team with a shot to win some games in the playoffs) are obvious. 1. Turnovers, especially (i) from the QB position, and (ii) in the Red Zone. 2. Another solid defensive playmaker at each defensive subcategory (line, linebackers, coverage) 3. Better defensive playcalling. The team does have talent. Man, the offense could be crazy good if nto for the turnovers and inability to score in the red zone. And if you don't think turnovers can't demoralize a defense, or spark the opposing offense, you're not watching the game - so some of the defensive miscues are simply a matter of the offensive turning the ball over too much. I don't know how exactly you "teach" the players to not turn the ball over as much - I guess it's just something you put as the number one offensive focus point going into next season. And I think that unless somebody amazing on offense slips to them, it's safe to say the Texans will be picking mostly defensive players the first day of the draft (or entirely, now that the first day is shorter). If at least one of those players turns out to be an average to above average starter, and if the team can FINALLY find a good FA in the offseason, I think you're defense gets a lot better. Richard Smith is probably let go (though he may be able to save his job with 3 more wins with solid defense...but will he revert back to crappy playcalling at the beginning of next year). So there are a lot of positives. Gary continues to make some unusual time management calls, but in all I a lot more convinced now than I was 4 weeks ago that a coach can only do so much and Gary isn't out there turning the ball over 4 times a game (though some of the playcalling was boneheaded). The offensive can be awesome. The defense seems to be improving. These last 3 games will tell a lot. A 3-0 finish would, despite the inability to make the playoffs again, make me super-excited again at the beginning of next year. It would show that the team can beat other good teams occasionally, too, not just beat up on some of the league's worst. But I wouldn't get too excited about a 6-3 run quite yet.
