    From @StephStradley, @LanceZerlein

    -open competition for RT position

-D Jones, J Jackson, M Louis getting no reps at WR

-Andre Johnson is out, but still on hand with the WRs

-Casey definitely will be splitting duties - worked with TE group

-D Sharpton will be held out of OTAs

-Texans very high on S Eddie Pleasant, has a good chance of taking Keo's roster spot

    @McClain_on_NFL
-Almost done with breakfast....lunch should be here soon. Will pass along OTA info once Texans PR emails me about it. Assuming I finished lunch and haven't started my nap.

UDFA NT Loni Fungupo, who a lot of people are intrigued by, hurt his leg yesterday.

Kubiak: Fangupo hope to be back next week. Holding out Sharpton right now, will be ready for camp. #TexansOTA

Not trying to troll, I don't hate Keenum, but in addition to already knowing the offense Beck is simply more gifted.

Yeah, I'll reserve my judgement after I see what he looks like trying to cover basketball players, rugby players, and a lawyer at tight end. But I guess that'll fall on Cushing again.

Texans OTAs: Brooks one big rookie, but can he take the heat? And an injury update

Posted on May 22, 2012 at 12:37 pm by Dale Robertson

    http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2012/05/texans-otas-update-on-rookie-nose-tackles-knee-injury/

For the moment, rookie guard Brandon Brooks is the heaviest Texan ever at 346 pounds and offensive line coach John Benton admits he has never worked with such a behemoth.

“College … pros, it doesn’t matter,” said Benton, who has been a Gary Kubiak assistant since 2006, the head coach’s first season. “He is a big man. But he’s not an overweight kid. He’s just big.”

Still, Houston’s heat and Kubiak’s light-on-its-feet offensive scheme figure to conspire to reduce Brooks’ proportions by the start of training camp. The Texans’ third-round pick from Miami (Ohio), has been asked to drop 15 or so pounds to enhance his mobility – zone blocking requires blocks of granite who can zig as well as they zag – and ensure his endurance come summertime.

Brooks said the temperature for Tuesday morning’s OTA “was the hottest I’ve ever been . . . The biggest thing is the humidity. I’m not used to that.”

This is not good. Compared to what he’ll experience in July and August, it was practically sweater weather.

But neither Kubiak nor Benton sound concerned about Brooks’ survival prospects. The Texans weren’t the least bit hesitant to use a third-round draft pick for him last month. He was “the best guy on the (draft) board, no doubt about it,” Benton said.

Even at 350-plus pounds in college, Brooks looked light on his feet, particularly coming off the snap. And he cracked five seconds in the 40-yard dash. Kubiak disagrees with the notion that Brooks doesn’t fit the mold of a zone blocker “because he can move. If he was 350 and just a big powerful, it would be different. But he moves around well and he can bend.

“I think he’s just a new-wave kind of kid. They’re making them a little bigger nowadays. I think he’s got a real good chance of being able to help us.”

Brooks will go into camp as Antoine Caldwell’s backup at right guard, the spot vacated by Mike Brisiel, who got a hefty free-agent contract from the Oakland Raiders. But Caldwell will have a fight on his hands. Although it’s his job to lose, he could conceivably lose it. Nobody in a position of authority is saying Brooks can’t be the starter just because he’s a rookie.

“This ‘tryout’ (to replace Brisiel and right tackle Eric Winston, who was released for salary-cap reasons),” Benton said, “is going to go well into training camp.”

Meanwhile, Hebron Fangupo, a rookie free agent nose tackle from Brigham Young, who suffered a left knee injury in a pileup Monday during the Texans’ first day of organized team activities, returned to the field Tuesday morning to ride the exercise bike.

Fangupo had to be carted off the field Monday, but it’s now thought that his injury isn’t too serious.

He is expected to return to full speed by the time training camp starts.

I don't doubt for a minute that James is better than DeMeco was last year.

A lot of this feeds into the rumblings last year that Wade didn't feel Ryans was the right fit for his system. Never did get concrete reason why that was. Bringing James from the Cowboys smacks of a buddy system move. We'll see - obviously I want the best for the team. He's used to the system and excelled under Phillips, but he was hardly better than Demeco last season.

At worst, it was a salary cap move, and we're fine if you consider it dollar for dollar.

    It's Manning.

Sharpton is out til training camp, and Demps was mentioned earlier in the tweet.

If healthy, I think Fangupo makes the team
