Ever since he arrived in Houston 13 months ago, Texans strength and conditioning coach Dan Riley has been a little restless. What's a strength coach to do without any players to work out?

But Riley is now back in his element as the Texans launched their off-season workout program Monday at Reliant Astrodome. All 65 players on the roster attended a morning lifting and orientation session. Texans head coach Dom Capers outlined the 11-week program, while founder Bob McNair welcomed the players to Houston.

"You will soon find out, if you haven't already, that Houston is a wonderful city to live and work in," McNair said. "Our fans are extremely excited to have all of you here.

"We're not going to guarantee that we'll win very game, but I know we will work harder than any other team in the league. That is the one thing we can control."

Capers stressed the importance of an off-season program, especially for an expansion team.

"There's no question it's an exciting time," Capers said. "Yet we have a tremendous challenge ahead of us. We have to get more out of this off-season period than other teams. And our success in this area will have a major influence on our ability to compete this fall."

Riley will take the players outside to the team's training facility for conditioning on Tuesday. The players return to the weight room Wednesday and then head back out for conditioning on Thursday. Capers is giving the players the following day off to observe Good Friday.
