http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/wcStory?contentId=5205394 HOUSTON (AP) - The Houston Texans want to win. But even David Carr's brother has suggested that the quarterback take a knee on every play in San Francisco on Sunday so they lose and are guaranteed the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft and most likely the rights to Reggie Bush. The players? They say they don't care about the Heisman Trophy winning running back or any other potential draft pick. In their eyes, the fans who are hoping they lose to secure the first pick in the draft are disrespectful. Receiver Andre Johnson, normally polite and well-mannered, was so irked by questions about the chance to get Bush that he glared at one questioner before offering a terse response. "It's not about Reggie Bush," Johnson said, letting out a huge sigh. "I don't know why people keep saying that. We're playing to win. We're not playing for Reggie Bush. If Reggie Bush comes here, oh well, so what." If the Texans lose, they will draft first. A win over the 49ers (3-12) would make things much more murky, and could leave Houston (2-13) in a five-way tie for the NFL's worst record. The players say a win would be fine with them. "I don't know Reggie Bush," running back Jonathan Wells said. "He's a great football player in college. He'll have his opportunity, wherever it may be. I'm doing what I can do to help the Texans win right now, and that's all I'm worried about." Carr said he'll probably think about Bush during the game, but that any talk of the Texans purposely losing to get him is crazy. "I might (think about Bush) because there is going to be so much talk about it," he said. "Yeah. I think it's going to cross your mind, but as far as toning it down and not playing to your ability level that's hard to do. I can't even imagine doing that." A gamebreaking player like Bush could certainly help the hapless Texans, but the question then becomes how much difference can one player make? "I don't see how he couldn't help our team," Carr said. For Carr, who's been sacked more than 200 times in his four-year career, a more attractive alternative might be getting a lower pick and using it on a left tackle like Virginia's D'Brickashaw Ferguson. Offensive lineman Zach Wiegert just tries to ignore the talk. "I can't think about that," he said. "It is my job to go out there and play no matter what the fans think. You should try being the guy out there trying and losing, it is much more frustrating than watching it." Even though the Texans have nothing more than pride to play for, coach Dom Capers will do all he can to lead his team to a win. After all, he can't be too concerned with Houston's draft position because, in all likelihood, he won't be there to see it because of the disappointing season. "I think that a big part of this game is how you deal with distractions," Capers said. "I've always felt that when you watch teams in the last game of the season, especially if they are out of the playoff race, it comes down to the most focused team and who plays with the most effort comes out on top. It's a challenge."
I heard Carr on the radio this morning talking about how he was hanging out with his family last night. His little brother has been sick, and they were just chilling in the backyard, drinking water. David asked his brother to pass his bottle of water to him, and his brother tried to get him to drink from his bottle, in hopes of getting David sick before the game on Sunday.
Poor babies are getting pissed off that everyone wants them to lose. Boo ****ing hoo. Going out and winning this week proves nothing. If I went to the game this week and they won, I would boo my ass off.
If they didn't want to hear questions about them needing to lose this game, then perhaps they should have played better over the course of the season so this discussion wouldn't even be necessary.
You can't expect the players to try & lose. I'm sure they're pissed & using this as motivation, and I wouldn't want anybody on my (theoretical) football team who would jake a game. That being said, Carr has no business being on the field this weekend. I thought Reeves was evaluating stuff, might be nice to know if Round 3 Ragone can be a servicable backup next year.
You guys are nuts. If these guys out there this week and all play to lose...we have bigger problems than Reggie Bush or any one else can fix. The idea that you're irritated that this team won't intentionally play to lose is baffling to me.
Totally agree. It's one thing for the fans to want the team to lose, but to expect the players to want it is just stupid. Half these guys won't be here in two or three years - what the hell do they care if Reggie Bush is a Texan?
man, i just don't understand this thinking. the idea that you would expect pro athletes to go out onto the field and tank...to try to lose. and that if they didn't you'd be disappointed or mad at them??? wow.
They don't have to tank. Just keep on doing what they've been doing since they've exsisted. If this is what it takes to get the team pumped up we truly need to start over completely.
HUH??? Carr doesn't know how an explosive back like bush can help his team? And he is supposed to be our field general?? Yikes!!! And I'm insulted about how piss poor than were this season. I know this...if I failed at my job as much as they failed at there's, I'd be in the unemployment line! Bunch of freaking babies!!!
"I don't see how he couldn't help our team" = He thinks Bush can help the team. Read it again, it's a double negative.
What worries me is that Dom knows he's gone... so he's gonna go all out to win this game to stick it to us. Honestly I can't see us losing to SF.. we've been playing pretty good as of late.
I'm in sulted by their record, so I could care less what they feel... the least they could do is get something good out of the season, and that happens at 2-14 not 3-13.
