ProFootballTalk @ProFootballTalk [rQUOTEr]The Texans cut FB Lawrence Vickers, per league source.[/rQUOTEr] 8/3/2011: Signed a two-year, $3 million contract. The deal included a $500,000 signing bonus.
Jacoby better be next. Too much money to be saved from cutting him. Vickers came on strong in the second half of the season, might sting. I don't think Thor is the guy.
What a weird move. Vickers looked good towards the end of the year. I like Casey but not sure this was smart. I would have cut Jacoby before cutting even Leinart. Why the **** is that scrub still on this team!
Well, it was obvious when they let Leach walk last year that this team doesn't view fullback as a very important position. I'm not sure if this is a vote against Vickers or a vote of confidence in James Casey. Couldn't have saved that much money from the cut, maybe a million at most, I would think.
Jacoby still on the team?!?!?!?!?!? He should have been the 1st player to be cut!!! Even if we didn't have cap issues, Jacoby should have been cut!! WTH!!!!
Lance Zierlein just tweeted a few minutes ago that the Texans are not even close to a deal with Myers or Mike Brisiel. Wondering what is going on...
I don't think their unwillingness to pay $4 million to Leach means they view the position as "unimportant". It looks like they view the position as not only a lead blocker for Foster, but also as an important safety valve for the QB. Vickers, as much as he improved, did not have a great set of hands. It looks like they saw enough out of Casey to go with him and sign a cheap FA or rookie to back him up and play special teams.
I'm all for signing Mario if there's a way to get it done, but not at the cost of losing the entire right side of our o-line. Surely that can't be what's happening here. On Jacoby- I think it's best that we come to terms with the fact that he's going to be here at least up until camp. They'll draft one or two WR, sign a veteran and some undrafted guys and have a competition. Kubiak isn't going to go into camp with Andre and Walter as his only known commodities.
