Would you take a shot at him. It seems he is homeless [teamwise] and very little interest. He is in decline but . . .he is not exactly shot. Would be a nice 2nd or 3rd receiver to have . . . very cheaply Would you risk it? Rocket River sometimes. . . u gotta gamble
No. Why risk it? Receiver isn't a weakness of this team so why bring in a notorious malcontent? There is no sense is gambling on a team killer when your team relies on everything to go right to make the playoffs.
no thanks. chemistry killer without any legitimate upside. We already have a better #2 (Walter) compared to the TO of last year.. and with Daniels in the fold, you don't really need an amazing 3rd WR (esp. not at the risk of his chemistry issues)
There's a reason he is still available. He hasn't been a #1 receiver since Philly, and he's not dependable enough to count on as a #2. Now that his talent has declined, his reputation has gotten the best of him. I'd rather rely on David Anderson as our #2 receiver than this guy.
Moss was 30 that year. TO is 36 now. The stats for receivers 35 and older are UGLY (except for Marvin Harrison and Jerry Rice, two of the GOATs)
That isn't being fair to TO's time in Dallas, where he posted similar numbers to what he did in Philly. And saying anything about last year, when he had garbage throwing the ball is just ridiculous. He isn't the player he was, and he can be a cancer, especially if you let him get comfortable, but he can still play. He had more catches, and more yards then Kevin Walter did last year with the NFL passing yardage leader as his QB.
Wow, I think many of you are completely overstating how much he has declined...he really hasnt declined that much, despite being 36. He was in an anemic offense last year...anyone could have predicted an off year. The Bills were 30th in offense. I mean, the year before last, TO still had 10 TDs...and thats more than Andre Johnson has ever had in a season. Even last year, TO averaged over 15 yards per catch...Andre Johnson just accomplished that, for the first time. TO is a much better player than you guys are making him out to be. He might not be all-pro anymore, but he is still a very good WR.
You're right, he was still productive in Dallas. My issue is that even though he put up similar numbers, he wasn't making nearly as big of plays as he was in Philly. You could definitely see some decline there. He was still a legit #1 in Dallas, just not an elite WR imo. As far as Kevin Walter is concerned, Walter was injured/hobbled for the better part of the first 6 weeks of the season ... and saw considerably less action with Jacoby Jones emerging. Walter was frequently taken out on 3rd down, which is obviously a high % passing down. Also, TO didn't have Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels on the same field as him either.
let's be fair to Walter, too. a) he was the #3 option on his team for the 1st half of the season and the #2 for the 2nd half (post OD injury). TO was the #1 all season. b) Walter is younger. He had a better year last year. It's more likely to expect the younger guy to get back to what he was in '09 than the 36 year old. c) the QB argument doesn't always hold. Zach Miller put up more catches and very similar yardage to TO with Jamarcus throwing him the ball all year. TO should have been able to outproduce him. (I feel comfortable comparing him to a TE considering they were both #1 options on teams with terrible QBs)
Also, another stat...TO had 5 catches of 40+ yards...Andre Johnson had never done that until this past season. I wouldnt say TO has lost a step...maybe .75 steps, but thats still probably faster than Walter.
