what a dumbass. he must not remember that francis scored 44 against his lakers. how could sf not be one of the top 10 pgs, or one of the top 7 combo guards?

Winter looks like the dummy to Jackson's ventriloquist when they sit next to each other.

This must be a freakin JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When i saw all winner team, i thought he wasnt on the list becasue hes not on a playoff team-hence All Winner team- but when i see andre Miller, or Jason Williams on there it just doesnt make sense!!! I've always considered Phil Jackson to be the NBA's most arrogant SOB... but I guess Tex Winter taught him.

I am absolutely infuriated. There has got to be some e-mail address or something that we can all flood. This is ridiculous. This guy is more senile than even Jack Ramsey.

I think that article came from the Athlon NBA Preview Mag. If so then that is a complete joke. I was reading that rag in the grocery store the other day (no I didn't buy that trash). The most ludicris thing in the whole magazine was that they predicted the GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS to make the playoffs ahead of the Rockets. And this was AFTER Arenas and Jamison had left the team.

    Yep.

The reason that Francis gets no respect from old school purist is because of the holes in his game.

Before you Francis apologist freak out...
Tex's analysis is more about those players *total games* and their role within their position. Not about spectacular dunks, scoring ability, or great leaping ability. If Francis doesn't learn his postion correctly, he'll never win a champship. So, what good is that "44" points against the Lakers?

I respect Tex Winters opinion. He's been part of 6 championship. It would be fair to say that he knows a little bit about basketball, player personal, and skill, don't ya think?

So, yes. Maybe this will motivate Francis. All I can say is, "Francis, prove him wrong! I dare you!"

so wait, you're actually gonna sit there and defend this? i mean if they had done point guards and based it on pure point guard skills alone, you might be able to maintain a tiny little shred of credibility for defending it, BUT HE INCLUDED COMBO GUARDS. he put j.r. bremer ahead of him. if you're defending that, give anybody a reason they should ever listen to anything you have to say about basketball again? although bremer does have all those championship rings, so maybe that's what tex was going on.

i'm hoping tex just blanked out and forgot steve was in the league, otherwise i don't know what to think.

that would be like paul pierce not making the list of sf's or webber not making the pf list.

There is still the fact that he was dismissed from the combo guard as well. Looking at those players: Arenas, Wagner, and Davis; there is no way that Steve has more holes in his game than those players. Wagner played a quarter of the season and is a Rookie! Arenas hasn't played for a good team yet, and Davis hasn't done anything since his sophmore year. Steve is easily better than those players, even with his "holes."

Coming from the words from Rudy and Calvin Murphy, Steve isn't a PG or a SG, he's a combo. I would have expected him to be right behind A.I., but he is not.

I would like to know where they put Yao Ming. I mean if he isn't in the top 3 or 4 (maybe even the top 2) I think that the guy just has a biased againts the Rockets.

Wow, DavidS trash talking the rockets and promoting Tex Winter, basketballl genius, master of the triangle, and most importantly, assistant on the 90's bulls, the team that was so unbelieveably great that even when they are not great or not as good they were still better than anything that you can think of for whatever reason he can think of because they are so good and awesome.

Accordingly, anything Tex Winter touches must turn to gold. Yep, you are all being a bunch of r****ded homers if you even dare put francis on a pedastal with superstars and winnters like JR Bremer and Eric Snow. And if you defend him, you are a silly homer apologist.

We all know Francis' game isn't where it needs to be yet, but for him to be ranked behind all of those guys is ridiculous.

I don't care what holes he has in his game, his strengths are enough to rank him ahead of Bremer, Tinsley, Snow, etc. That's ridiculous.

The other thread listing Steve as #4 makes much more sense. He still has the talent to be higher than that, so that ranking takes into account his need to improve, but doesn't discount the huge positives he brings to the floor night in and night out.

I would not build a team on Bibby or Arenas. I don't think that's the point of the article.

If you think that it's slap in the face of Francis. Oh, well. Again, prove Tex wrong.

Let Francis defend himself on the court.

    Let him prove Tex wrong.

That's the thing, he's already proven that he's better than people like Snow, Bremer, and some of those others. It's already been done. I would like to see him improve more and cause people to laugh in Tex's face when they see him, but Steve has already proven that he's a better player than several of the guys on Winter's list.

So, Francis is more complete PG than Snow?

How's Francis defense? What about is passing? What about his court vision?

    Huh?

You think "better" means, dunking and shooting a lot, or 22ppg. Here's a wakeup call. 22ppg has been done before.

    Sorry, next...

Everyone who has responded to your post has proved him, and you, wrong.

He's picking the best players at their position. THAT'S the point of the article. And by not including Francis, he's wrong. In no universe is Francis not one of the top 10 point guards, and at the very least, one of the top seven combo guards. You have now proven that your opinion is as useless as his. Congrats.

That's not a good sign..."to forget that Steve was in the league."
