As you might guess...I'm not a McAuliffe fan...but I heard he said something on Meet the Press this last Sunday that just baffles me. I heard he said that the Bush tax cut was actually the democrats' idea. Huh??? If he said that, it might be the single most blatant lie I've ever heard from a politician given the fight against the cut in the presidential campaign and in the legislature after Bush was elected. can anyone confirm this?
I saw McAuliffe get absolutely crushed by Marc Racicot. McAuliffe was backpeddling the entire interview and he let his frustrations show on multiple occasions. Racicot took him to the shed repeatedly. Today's Wall Street Journal highlighted the fact that Ron Kirk has a history of mar1juana use. I remember watching the debate and hearing him say this, but I don't recall it getting much press.
So what? He said he tried it and didn't like it. At least he answered the question. Cornyn wouldn't even answer it.
I haven't heard Ron Kirk give an opinion throughout this entire campaign on the holocaust...I wonder where he stands on it? He owes it to the voters to let us know, dammit!!!
The tax cut idea has been gaining popular steam...not surprising that he would do an about face and make his guys look like it was their idea. Remember this is the party of the guy that invented the Internet.
I just refuse to vote for a candidate with a history of illegal drug use. If he gives in to the temptations of illegal drugs, how could he possibly resist the tempatations associated with being a US Senator? We need a Senator with integrity and moral character.
Good point. I personally could give a damn that Kirk smoked a little weed in his youth. I just don't agree with his politics...so I voted for Cornyn. Big shock, huh?
At least Kirk answered the damn question. Cornyn and Bush won't even do that. But, I didn't not vote for Bush because of that and didn't vote for Kirk because of that. BTW, have y'all heard about reports of people calling claiming to be Ron Kirk supporters saying that he's for same-sex marriages and gay adoption, which he's not? The same thing was done in Florida against Bill McBride.
Actually there is absolutely no evidence that Bush has a history of previous drug use. The question was randomly (or strategically) raised but not based on hearsay or anything. Bush did dodge the question but there is no "smoking gun" (or smoking whatever) as evidence of hist past drug use. This issue is a great example of politics in America. The way it works is at some point in your life you "choose your team" so to speak. Then you spend the rest of your life rationalizing your decision. Did Bush do drugs or not? If you're on the other team then he did and if your on his team he didn't. Was Monica-gate bad? If you are on Clinton's team you will rationalize it. If not, it was horrible. Politics suck.
I disagree with Ron Kirk on this issue, and I'm sure that John Cornyn agrees with him. The problem is someone flat out lying about someone's position in order for them to lose votes.
Politics do suck sometimes. However, I will say that I think that Cornyn and Kirk have run a relatively clean campaign, and no one's made an issue about Kirk saying he tried it and Cornyn not answering. In fact, Kirk's response to Cornyn was "I wish I'd said that", or something along those lines. There's been some stuff thrown back and forth, but it's been pretty clean. Of course, I am comparing it to the two most evil men in Texas-Perry and Sanchez.
Should we really be asking candidates if they tried pot, unless they're rabidly anti-pot? It's only an issue for me if the candidate in question has a hard-line approach to the drug war.
Hey...MadMax brought up an interesting question with the first post in this thread...does anyone know the answer?
