I wonder if anyone experienced the same pain I recently had when I was hiking in the mountains. It was on a 6 hour trip (3 hours up & 3 hours down). After about 30 minutes of down-hiking the outsides of my knees started to hurt very badly. The pain appeared every time I bended my knees and growed even more the longer I walked down. At the end I had to walk like a mummy with no ability to bend my knees and you can bet alot that I was the joke of the day. The same pain I had some time ago while I was moving from one place to my new appartment and I had to walk up and down the stairs with a lot of stuff many many times. Do I have TIm Hardaway knees or what? Fruitsalad knees syndrom? What is it?
I am not sure what the affliction is, but I suffer from the same thing, I have experienced it while moving, and it only hurts going down the stairs and not up. It never hurts right away, it kicks in after a few trips, if you do find anything out, post a message about it, I would like to know what the hell is wrong with me as well lol Thanks, CAK
Sounds like it could be a lot of things. I'm no doctor, but if it's both knees that probably rules out previous cartilage damage. Are your knees prepared for the exertion? I.e., do you workout? Your knees have synovial fluid to help 'grease' the knee, you may have an inadequate amount if you don't workout regularly. Do they swell? Probably an indication that there is too much friction either from lack of fluid or cartilage. Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplements help the knee. MSM also helps, esp with the fluid I believe. Antioxidants and antiinflammatories will reduce the swelling. (If your knees swell on a regular basis, you should determine the cause and alleviate it because swelling causes a chain-reaction development of free radicals with damage cells and can lead to osteoarthritis)
Could it be tendinitis? About 7 years ago my knee started hurting like crazy. I could never sit down cross-legged or bend my knee at all. But it went away completely after I worked out on it (lightly). I would probably get some x-rays done just to be sure though.
Thanks a lot to all. I guess the main reason is because I do not work out at all. I am not sure if bowling and console-gaming counts. Cohen: I did not know that this grease stuff gets upbuilded by working out. Thanks. I gonna check out some medicine as you mentioned. I heard from some stuff that comes from a kind of mussels (oyster like things). In some part of New Zealand (I guess) they found out that all the natives have no problems at all with (I do not know the word) - elbows, knees, the bone connections in general because they daily eat these mussels. Will find it out. CAK: thanks - brothers in arms, ehm moving. Moving sucks anyway. I like to install the apartment but the moving itself is crap. Last time I made a dent in the rented truck - an extra fee of USD 700.-- occured. great. ROckets03: I dont hope so. But it seems now it is time to do some sports. The advantage of youth is getting lost.
When I was in my 20's my knees hurt a lot. Went to an orthopedic doctor. He told me my hamstring were very tight. One session at p/t to learn how to do hmastring stretches. I do the exercises at least once a week sometimes more. Nor problems with my knees since then.
My left knee has been acting up as well, though I don't think it is the same thing as you. I've been playing a lot of basketball and jumping a lot off of concrete and landing back. Last week, I played basketball at school and when I came home, my knee hurt a bit. I thought maybe I could work it out, but just about anytime I jump (jump off of my left leg) my knee has a little shock or something of pain. I could probably just ignore it and play ok, but it still bother me. I tried a knee brace but it didn't really work. Looking at my knee, I don't think it is swollen. If it is, it is just a little bit, compared to my right knee. Let's just say it isn't like the ankle on that one picture. (forgot who it was? Hairy, I know that.) When I "prod" slightly below my knee cap, I feel some pain so I'm guessing that may be the area in question. Only thing I can think of is take it easy and it will go away. I may still shoot around, but I'll try to stop jumping. Sorry if I couldn't really decribe it well. I'm not very good at that, I usually just know something's not quite right. edit: Oh yeah, I'm young, 16, almost 17, and I am in pretty good shape.
AHHH!!!! Sounds like Osgood Schlaters to me, and i should know ive had it for 4 years. Mine started just like this, and now that slight prod below the knee will result in bumping into a huge bone sticking out. I'd stay away from jumping, or running, see ur doctor, and stretch like hell until it goes away totally. Trust me, for more info email me at swoosh425@hotmail.com and i can give u some excercises that help
Ummm....sports will only make it worse I think. Jumping on concrete while playing basketball is not exactly soothing you know. And bowling is very tough on your knees as well. You need to rest, stretch and do light weights. But definitely see a doctor first.
I ran a marathon when I was 19 and experienced a similar thing(I think). I ran the race fine until about mile 18 or 19 and my knees started to 'lock up'. It felt better to run the rest of the 26.2 mile'r straight legged than to continue as I was. I wonder if you and I experienced something similar. I wasn't able to run further than a mile until 4 years later and I decided to run thru the pain. I think my knees were being oiled like the tin man or something. I haven't run past 3 miles since the marathon. I wish I could.
