I'm going to editorialize and say I think he's gone. Indiana sure thinks he's gone from Houston. They fired their coach and put the signal out immediately that they want him.

Ugh. I just don’t see any other coaches out there who would be better than D’antoni. He has maximized performance for a team that’s essentially Harden and a bunch of role players most years.

harden will put up numbers with any coach. Harden needs a coach that’s better at in game adjustments and better at expanding the rotation

Don't see what he will do with that team

Harden is way better than any player on the pacers and Mike d might not make it

The Grass ALWAYS SEEMS GREENER on the other side.

Rox fans are tired of Dan Tony, his coaching and the playoff results.
Pacers fans are tired of McMillan and his offensive weaknesses and the playoff results and want Dan Tony.

Teams like the Washington basketball team are tired of Scott Brooks and his coaching weaknesses and their results and would love a Nate McMillan.

    Funny how these things go.

Oh, HELL no. We'd get one solid season (maybe a WCF appearance), then things would fall apart rapidly.

George Karl teams often get 1 or 2 seed then lose in the first round. No thanks. Seems he’s kind of an ******* too (not in a good way.)

D’Antoni will have no shortage of suitors.

Organizations know the circumstances surrounding MDA and the Rockets. They know what he has done in Houston. They know the Warriors and injuries have been huge road blocks.

MDA can get more out of less than the vast majority of coaches. He has flaws, but his strengths standout.

I agree with @justtxyank that he is gone. Ownership had a chance to sign him and didn’t. MDA isn’t going to forget that. Further TF isn’t going to put pay the 3-4 possible offers MDA will get. On top of all that, TF doesn’t really want him back that bad.

He could end up with the Sixers or Pacers or New Orleans.

George Karl could not coach in the current NBA environment. He says things to and about players that wouldn’t be tolerated.

The Rockets would likely look at Atkinson, Silas or possibly Joerger.

    agree about George Karl...he’s a non-starter

I’m not sure about Atkinson’s ability to manage superstar egos...I’m getting “overachieve with young guys and role players, but overwhelmed with stars” vibes from him

    Will he hold anyone accountable?

Silas I don’t know enough about to speak on

Joerger would get a hell no from me

Atkinson has been my preferred choice of all the consistent names we’ve been hearing

I think the best case scenario for the Rockets (besides winning the chip obviously) is they get into a super competitive series in the WCF or Finals and they decide they wanna keep Mike cause he coached his ass off. I think Mike would prefer to stay, this is his best option to get a championship. Those other teams that are interested aren't close. I think his comments about 'I have 2-3 years left' were quite revealing. No coincidence that those years line up with Harden's contract. This is his last best chance, he isn't throwing away that over hurt feelings I dont think

Sixers with no shooters would be a disaster for him but he has coached them before so he might help Simmons tap into his unlimited potential and learn how to shoot. Mike is a great coach with the right pieces

I agree that MDA’s preference is to stay healthy in Houston with Harden and Morey.

The issue for me is more that TF isn’t going to make retaining him a priority.
