Q&A with Carroll Dawson from NBA.com. Q: How do you evaluate what happened here today? Dawson: This was nerve-wracking. The main thing is, you come up here and our chances aren't very good at nine, but I just didn't want to lose the position, so when it got to 10 and it was still in order, we knew we didn't lose anything. It would have been nice (to move up), but the odds were pretty long with us at nine. Q: When your pick comes up, do you see yourself going on need or taking the best player out there? Dawson: You go on need if it's there, but you wouldn't take a lesser player for need. That's when you look at trying to make a trade, maybe. If the talent's close, you kind of always try to draft a need. But the thing we do is we all get together - Rudy (Head Coach Tomjanovich), the scouts and I. Rudy was a scout for years. We've made a lot of picks that weren't what everybody else thought we would make, but they worked out for us - getting Shandon Anderson last year, getting the Steve Francis trade done, and picking up three good young players in the Scottie Pippen trade. So for us, the transition of getting younger has already begun. This year was a double-edged sword for us. It was bad because we didn't make the playoffs, but those guys got a lot of experience, so they're a year ahead of where they would have been. Q: It's probably accurate to say you won't be in the market for a point guard. Dawson: We're pretty happy with our backcourt. I'll be honest with you - we're looking for size. ------------------ We need some meat in the post!
