but some of your post makes some sense. today they missed yao quite a few times when he had position initially. no one can deny that. but you go a little overboard.

we miss MoT and Spoon today. Yao was overworked and refs did everything to take his game away.
Is there anything wrong with Cato's hands? He couldn't hold on the ball tonight. And why was he taken out of the game in the second half? I didn't hear what his injury was.

 

Teams that front Yao have to make sure the weakside defender is ready to guard Yao just in case he gets a lob pass over the fronting defender. The weakside defender is usually way off his man. This almost always means that a couple of passes around the perimeter usually results in an open 3 point shot. The fact that JJ is taking and making so many 3 point shots means Cuttino and Steve are getting the same looks.

The Rockets don't have to get the ball to Yao if the other team wants to play this kind of defense. Just make sure they swing the ball around the arc quickly, and take the open shots.

This is where the Rockets have a problem. Steve sucks at shooting the 3 pointer. Cuttino is streaky. This is why I've advocated bringing in outside shooters who are legit gunners. Guys like Brent Barry and Ray Allen would destroy this kind of defense.

 

I just hope the whole team is going to study tonight's game tape until the next game, do nothing but study. We gotta learn from this loss.

 

watching this game made me realize how terrible cato really is, the guy plays occasionly good defense but other than that is awful. he has no passing/shooting/ball handling abilities whatsoever. the one guy who i would love to see gone next season is cato. mobley is also a terrible passer but i think he at least plays with heart.

 

aint no gm stupid to take on his 7mill contract or are they. Hopefully they are.

 

Cato is cato, we dont bank on Cato to get us rings. Cato is poor man's version of Rodman on this team. Cato is not going affect the outcome of the game in this league, so leave him alone.
But I did not like his attitude that he has to whine after every call, focusing on getting calls instead of getting ready defensively.

 

that is whats wrong with him. he should have an affect on a game, as should every nba player. its pathetic that the only shot he can make is an alleyhoop dunk when he is playing in the NBA. it seems that he knows he will miss everyitme he shoots so as long as it gets kind of close to the basket its fine by him. cato is simply lazy and content with being good enough to get by. cato def needs to go and i wont "leave him alone" until he shows some effort and starts makin some shots.

Talking about effort. I say Cato, Yao and other guys at least gave the equal. You had JJ talking about beating press at the half time, while he was the one careless with the ball numerous times in the first half. Cato is offensively less talented on the team, but he has improved much under JVG. I would like to keep him as backup C, because he may be the best backup C in the league. The guy just doesnt have an offensive game, but doing pretty well on the other end of the floor.
But I sorta aggree with you that Cato should never post up to call for the ball while Yao is on.
