http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/Central/05/14/store.rampage.ap/index.html Man angry at Verizon hurls phones More than $2,000 in damage results FARGO, North Dakota (AP) -- A man who said he was fed up with his cellular phone service went to a Fargo mall and started hurling phones across a store, striking an employee and causing more than $2,000 in damage, authorities said. Jason Perala, 22, of Fargo, told The Forum newspaper that he planned only to yell at employees at Verizon Wireless. "Then I just lost it," he said. "I just started grabbing computers and phones and throwing them. I just destroyed the place. ... I kind of regret that I did it, but I hope my message got across." Police said Perala took off his shirt and put on safety glasses before throwing around computers, phones and other items. One employee was struck in the shoulder by a phone before he and other workers dashed into an office, locked the door and called police, Sgt. Kevin Volrath said. Other businesses in the West Acres mall lowered their steel security gates during Thursday's incident. Perala was arrested without incident and jailed on charges of felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor simple assault.
BTW .........this is my absolute favorite part of this story. The guy is safety conscience. If you are going to thrown things in a store, make sure you protect your eyes!!
How is it that he intended to only yell at them but managed to have saftey goggles with him? I guess he was prepared for anything lol
Man, I can tell you from a first-hand eyewitness account that many employees want to do the same to their customers. People are idiots when it comes to their cell phones and their bills.
My real question is... WHY? I have Verizon Wireless, and it's much, much better than my old service, Sprint. Man, I can only imagine what this poor guy would have done had he used Sprint PCS. He might have burned the place down or something...
Its amazing how dumass customers take their frustration out on the salespeople, i have people come upto me in Ccity all the time yellling about how their warranty wasnt worth it, or how the product sucked, i swear im about one angry customer away from hurling a phone at them...
I spent enough time working at Best Buy when i was younger to feel your pain. Thank god i went from the sales floor to a Tech real quick so i didn't have to worry =)....Then all i had to deal with was a high level of ignorance...but in the Tech bench we could tune them out....we would just say okay okay okay okay and walk away lol...
I know what you mean, man--I used to WORK for Sprint. Speaking of which, they just tried to jam me up for an extra $200 on my bill this month, and I had to call them to get it fixed. The funny thing is, like I said, I used to work for them--I know for a fact it's not fixed. It takes a minimum of three trips to Sprint to fix whatever problem they called. They're making wireless easy for me.
