There's a (very) outside chance the bnb household may go on an extended (6 month +) drive through the lower 48 next year. Pretty much taking us across the country twice, and up and down each coast...I know the west coast pretty well...and would spend some time in Oregon, San Fran..etc, but haven't seen much of the rest of the country. So far, places we would definitely see include: Grand Canyon Las Vegas Yellowstone New Orleans Memphis Boston NYC DC ...what places would you consider 'must-sees??'
Rudager: Please tell me where that is, because it's SURE to make the list!!! here's hoping you haven't leached that image and it's soon replaced by something obscene...

Come on y'all....where's your 'merican spirit??? This trip may not happen, but i'm having fun planning it anyways. There's just so much to see. Anything you'd recommend that I might not find in a tourbook??? (Thank's for the Eldorado tip, Tex...that's the kind of thing i'm looking for...and giant elephant, and the stuff carved out of mountains tour). If I make it to Houston...an Astro's game at MinuteMaid, and a High School Football game are on the list (NASA too...of course...and the last 47 seconds of a Rockets game)..but what about the rest of the country?? Where are your favourite places? Things to do??

If in Colorado in the late Spring through early Fall, I'd suggest both Rocky Mountain National Park (you can stay overnight in Estes Park - the Stanley Hotel where The Exorcist was filmed is there and is always popular) and Mesa Verde National Park. If you miss Mesa Verde, you should definitely see at least some sort of Native American site like that - they are fascinating and truly a part of American history. Also around that area is the 4 corners, which is kind of cheesy, but neat nonetheless - at one time you can literally be standing in 4 states. On Rocky Mountain National Park, it is a great park to visit with family. They have a variety of nice, shorter hikes and a large amount of longer ones. It is good in the winter (theoretically better wildlife), too, but I wouldn't suggest it as part of a family trip per se. Also, of note, Colorado has 54 mountains over 14,000 feet (compared to Texas, where the highest mountain is something like 7,000 feet), including Long's Peak (which is in RMNP, but is a 12 hour hike) and another one (can't remember the name), which is one of the most easily accessible peaks in the world...you literally drive up and then hike half a mile and you can say you hiked a 14teener. Hope that's some of the insider info you were looking for.
If you're gonna see yellowstone, you need to see Glacier Nat'l Park, the Gallatin River Valley, the Grand Tetons, the South Dakota badlands, and Mt. Rushmore and the black hills.
