Members of Cluuthfans have always been more aware of pop culture than me but I cannot keep up if I tried and I think there is too much programming for anyone to be completely aware. When I was growing up my father didn't get cable because he saves money everywhere he can. That being said my brother and sister are 11 and 8 years older. One way we connect is television. I grew up watching reruns of shows like Get Smart, Gilligan's Island etc. so did my siblings and mother. It was a connection. Nowadays there is so much programming that connection is lost. I know choices is a benefit for everyone but I think the way programming updates to newer programs it's changed how families watch television
We connect on tiktok videos now dawg and whoever gets the most likes on their comment becomes the most popular prom king.
This. Sadly. Pop culture is dead the way we knew it. Also music to a degree. Algorithms silo people in boxes of stuff they like and rarely expose them to anything new unless it’s paid ads.
Always interconnected. Humanly detached. Think that is real. It is different. It's evolution. Get used to it. The world will be better for it in the long run. It always is. So my recommendation is not to fight it. Adapt to it. There is no need to gather any more around media. We share our thoughts on it briefly, but that's the extent of it.
Oh, I don't know about that - the other day I was looking for information on cars, comics, and fossils on YouTube, so the algorithm exposed me to a video of a rat getting crushed by a moving bus with the *crunch* included. I thought that was an out-of-the-box recommendation and quite refreshing.
This generation has the ability to connect in many more ways, but in different ways. Instead of being in the same room with each other, watching a TV show, they are constantly connected through technology, but without being in the same room. In some ways it's better - it's more convenient and the have lots of different ways to connect. But in some ways it's worse because much of it is not in-person, face-to-face interaction. As a result, youth lose the ability to converse, look people in the eye, and build close relationships (either friendships or romantic).
I grew up in the 80`s and we didn't have technology like we do today. Sports on TV always connected us and when I was even younger we all bonded on Sunday nights watching Walt Disney`s movie of the week over Pizza Now, we mostly text and no phone calls except for Holidays. I used to chuckle when my nieces would text each other while in the same house, but now I get it...................no one wants face to face verbal communication
