What would you trade to get the former AL MVP. I think Miggy is definitely worth going after and would be the big splash we need after this bad Rajah press. The O's always need pitching right? Backe, Qualls, and a prospect, perhaps Nieve?
After not offering Clemens arbitration, it was reported that we would no longer look to deal starting pitching. I just don't think we can afford to lose Backe, a rotation of Oswalt, Pettite, Rodriguez, Astacio and ? is pretty damn bad. If we can get him for relievers and prospects, pull the trigger though.
As I've stated elsewhere...I personally don't want to lose Lidge, unless it meant getting Miguel Tejada. Lidge, Everett, and a prospect or two (not named Patton, Hirsch, or Pence) could be tempting to the O's. They get a more proven closer than the one they just lost in free agency. They get a good defensive shortstop to bat 9th and some prospects. Imagine... Taveras CF Biggio 2B Berkman 1B Tejada SS Ensberg 3B Lane RF Burke LF Ausmus If Bags is healthy enough, then it becomes an even better lineup with Burke to the bench and Berkman in LF.
From ESPN: [rquoter] "I've been with the Orioles for two years and things haven't gone in the direction that we were expecting, so I think the best thing will be a change of scenery," Tejada told The Associated Press during a telephone interview in his native Dominican Republic. Tejada signed a $72 million, six-year contract with the Orioles before the 2004 season. [/rquoter] This really #@$%ing bugs me. If you weren't willing to accept that things might not work out as you wanted and you'd get stuck on a bad team, why do you sign a #%@*ing long term deal! I know the answer, but it bothers me that the player seems to not be willing to even aknowledge any personal responsibility for the crappy situation he is in. What's to say he won't suddently decide in the middle of next season that he doesn't like the way things are working out at his new team and demanding a midseason trade?
Agreed these players are signing the contracts and things don't go there way they start to wine don't sign for the long term deals .
Since we're consistently in the playoffs and made it to the World Series last year? He's mad because Baltimore isn't making the right moves to produce a winner. He just wants to win, something we've been pretty good at over the last 10 years.
i think people are taking what miggy is saying out of context. he's upset because the o's have had opportunities to make their team better and haven't. they let bj ryan walk, and had a chance last year to get aj burnett to make a push for the playoffs and didn't pull the trigger. also the whole raffy situation where he blamed him for the steriods probably has left a sour taste with him too. it sounds like he wants to win and when he signed with them it did look like they were trying to win, but this offseason they have regressed and aren't doing anything to improve a team that at one point in time was leading their division. i think he'd be fine in houston.
If a team has a right to trade/shop a player they aren't happy with after signing, then a player has the right to say he wants to be traded or express his displeasure with the teamif he doesn't feel they've done enough to win. You don't know what the team told him they'd do if he signed there.
Yeah, let's not make Tejeda out to be AJ Burnett. Here's tidbit from a columnist for the Boston Globe (who's pushing for a Tejeda/ManRam deal): Replace Ramírez with Tejada, and the Sox become the best team in baseball. The only thing more obvious than his talent is Tejada's burning desire to win. Even his most ardent supporters can't say the same about Ramírez. http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2005/12/09/tejada_asks_out_are_stars_aligning/
