You can go bigger than that with a projector which is much cheaper and has higher resolutions too.

The only downside is that you need to be able to control the light of the room.

Yeah, the projector is definitely the way to go. Mine even looks pretty good with a little light in the room.

I have two of them, and we watch Rocket games in HD (when they are on TNT) on an 8 foot screen on the back porch.....

I love the portability of these things.

I've got an 8 foot screen in my apartment. It is awesome in HD. There really is no drop off in picture quality. I don't see why more people don't have them.

I know, I found my screen online for like $70 total, and my outdoor setup's 6 speakers probably cost about $250, add in the $1200 or so for the HD projector and I got a good outdoor theater about $1500.

My buddy works in IT at OU and he hooked us up with the screen for free. Universities are so wasteful. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

My projector isn't true HD (it's an Epson Powerlite S1+), but it upscales and looks very nice (native 800x600). I got in on one of the greatest deals in FatWallet history and after endless mail-in rebates and some price matching I ended up getting it for about $250 (I tried to find the thread, but I guess they don't have an archive). I got it three years ago and the lamp, while still functional, is just now starting to go. I found a new one for $130, and it will be worth 5 times that.
