So, in the mail the other day, I received a 401(k) statement from a company I was with for a few years. I left this particular company 2 years ago, but I still have the 401(k) account. So, after receiving the mail about the 401(k), a few days later I received an email from my bank with the title "Have questions about your old 401(k)?" I mean, how do they know? Do these companies share information? Coincidence? Skynet?
I got an email from Wells Fargo with the same title today. So it's just a coincidence - they timed the blast to a huge list of emails they already own. They send all kinds of marketing emails covering a lot of bases.
Thirty plus years in the workforce? Quarterly updates of my 401K? I would guess it may be different for varying plans but a year is 12 months. Ending in December. edit: I offered the comment as just another data point, not a definitive explanation of your specific situation.
FWIW, the fiscal year at my job begins in August. Which makes December fall in the middle of a quarter. And I have nine years in the workforce.
