JAPANESE engineers have taken us one step closer to the robot revolution by developing a machine inspired by the movie Aliens.

The Dual-Arm Power Amplification Robot gives users superhuman strength and resembles the hydraulic exoskeleton worn by Sigourney Weaver in the climactic scene of the sci-fi classic.

The robot is being developed for disaster relief situations and can lift more than 100kg.

Can't find a picture of the robot that Weaver drove in Alien.

    Awesome.

Although, there appears to be a height requirement of 5'9" on that model. And that guy is 5'7", tops.

He can lift 100 kilos, but now sings castrato:

Nice and thanks. So the robot was named "Power Loader" in the movie?

It won't take much time to build one had the Japanese succeeded in this "Dual-Arm Power Amplification Robot".

Other than the fact that this somewhat duplicates a movie theme, I don't think it's really all that new. I think the military and universities have been creating exo-skeletons for years. I know Raytheon built one that was considered one of the most advanced sometime last year.

I'll take your Matrix armored personel unit and raise you Ed 209.
No need to be IN the unit, sit safely at home and let Ed do it's thing!!

"Will you be my spotter while I attempt to lift 425 pounds? Just pick it up off the bar and let it go. I got it from there."

The problem with these types of machines is always the same...power. The power supply is usually so big it'll weigh half the machine itself if it isn't plugged into something. Otherwise you buy a 'power lifter' with a long extension cord that's attached to a power supply that's as big as the construction vehicle you probably should've bought in the first place.

These things are just going to be glorified science projects until we get a big 'power source' discovery, but hey, at least we'll have some initial designs when the technology becomes available.

I hate the design of these things. Big battlesuit that leaves the driver totally exposed. Made what would have been a cool part of the third movie completely silly.

    Human technology is pathetic.
