So got a blu ray player the other day, trying to hook it up right now, and not sure exactly what im doing wrong...the screen shows up on my tv, but its in black and white. not sure why theres no color. any ideas what might be going on? using the component cables the player came with, cant figure it out, i'll go out and buy and HDMI cable.

Make absolutely sure that Green goes to Green, Red goes to Red, and Blue goes to Blue.

Also, make sure that Red (Video) is going to Red (Video) and Red (Audio) is going to Red (Audio)

Common mixups. 95% sure one of those is your problem.

if mig's suggestion doesn't fix it, you could have a bad cable.

let us know if it works.

They're necessary to fully utilize blu-ray's resolution. You should absolutely be using one.

is it plugged in? you should try plugging it in. look for an electrical socket and make sure and insert the plug into it.
