I live in the galleria area and have been having problems with my DSL service. What happens is the connection periodically cuts off, stays off for about 25 seconds, then comes back on, stays on for about 75 seconds (total cycle time = 100 seconds), rinse and repeat. This repeats over and over, usually only on weekend nights, and gets really annoying when Quaking, trying to keep up with the GARM threads, etc.

I called SBC and they couldn't find anything wrong, and for them to do further diagnosis, they would have to send out a technician, at a price.

Up until tonight, I didn't know whether the problem was on SBC's end, or on my end (interference). But tonight, listening to the Rockets game on 610 AM, EUREKA!, I noticed that there was interference on the radio that corresponded almost exactly to the DSL cutoff cycle. From this, I think it's a sure bet that the same interference causing my 610 AM signal to crap out every 100 seconds is the same thing causing my DSL to crap out every 100 seconds. Offhand, the only thing I can think of that could be doing this is that darn revolving spotlight on the Williams Tower. Does anyone have any more info specifically on that spotlight (time it takes for one complete revolution, hours that it is operated, etc.)?

I want to see if the Williams Tower spotlight revolution rate matches my interference problem. Also, if the spotlight is operated only at night (which would make sense), that would explain why I only get the interference at night.

Anyone with DSL near the galleria area have a similar problem?

And IF I do find out that that spotlight is the problem, besides buying a sniper rifle and taking it out, what can I do about it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

screw DSL... get roadrunner. Much faster, and not affected by mystical spotlights.

Thanks for the responses guys. Keep 'em coming if you find out any new info.

By the way, the interference cycles stopped this morning around 7:40ish, and both my DSL and 610 AM are once again fully operational, with no annoying interruptions. Is 7:40(ish) a.m. about the time Williams Tower turns off that infernal spotlight/beacon?

Are there any bbs posters here that work at Williams Tower, by any chance?
