I bought a 1 TB Lacie external hard drive last December and everything had been fine until recently. It keeps disconnecting with no provocation and I fear that eventually one of those warnings will be true and I will lose all of my data. Sometimes it happens when I remove another item from the second USB port on my MacBook and sometimes it happens for no reason whatsoever. So is this thing kaput? Are there any formatting solutions to be found or do I need to look into another 1 TB drive before the inevitable happens? Thanks in advance, o wise Clutchfans.
It could be a bad case design. I had a WD passport and the case plastic was just thick enough to make the plug from the ac to the controller a little loose. I had to take it apart and connect it with the hard drive exposed to get a secure connection.
