Soooo, the motherboard on my HP failed a few days ago. I'm looking to buy a decent laptop that can do some multitasking. I'm not gonna be using it for anything way to memory consuming. I'll watch a few movies, download some music, the usual. It will be mostly for school work/media. I'm looking at two models in particular. The HP dv6t and the dv6 quad edition. The big difference between the models is the quad processor vs. the dual core p7450. To all you computer guys: What is the major difference between the Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-720QM Processor and the Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor P7450? Is it worth the difference in price??? Here's a link: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/s...store&landing=notebooks&a1=Processor&v1=Intel (Ughh btw, I missed a $200 coupon off the quad series notebook. Or else I wouldn't even be starting this thread )
That quad core is overkill for anything you seem to be using it for. What kind of school work will you be doing? What's the price difference on the two laptops? And don't sweat $200 off and 20% off coupons... they come damn near every other week or so for HP and Dell.
Really, 20% off coupons every other week? Maybe I should wait then...
Well- The P7450 with 4GB DDR3 RAM, 320 GB HD, 512MB ATI Radeon HD 4530 Graphics, and a 12 cell battery is for: $813 (before tax) The i7-720QM with 3GB DDR3 RAM, 320 GB HF, 1 GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M Graphics, and only a 6 cell battery is for: $903 (before tax)
Yeah, I mean I download some torrents and stuff. I have Itunes running in the background and it cause my previous PC to lag. Not to mention that I'm usually on Hulu and stuff. As far as school work, it's really basic. Just basic office stuff and the like. Online homework and the such, but again it's really basic. What I'm mostly worried about is running multiple software at one time and the computer lagging badly. I'm so tired of that. Especially when using utorrent and stuff
HP is junk. You would think you would have learned that from your last experience. Get a comparable Dell.
i second outlet. dell outlet has a refurb 15.6" core 2 duo 2.1ghz with 320gb hd, 4gb ram, 512mb vid card for $640. check google or slickdeals to see if there are any 20% off coupons.
Both of those computers you're looking at seem like overkill for what you're trying to do, but if you don't mind spending $800+, I'd go with the quad core for the $90 difference. Also, is your laptop going to be far away from an outlet a lot? If not, then the battery difference probably isn't an issue.
The performance benchmarks on i7's are insane, plus the i7 model you listed in your 2nd post has a way beefier graphics card. Only reason not to get the i7 is if you want great battery life. You'll probably only get an hour's charge running that thing. Also, if you're getting a 64-bit operating system I'd thoroughly recommend 4GB+ of RAM.
Yeahh honestly they would all be overkill. But I figure I'll splurge this one time and be set for a few years. I'll be near an outlet most of the time plus I guess I can always upgrade the battery later on. I'm also def going with the 4+ GB or RAM. I guess I'm leaning towards the i7 then. I'll wait around a few days and see if any other coupons come out though
