I was checking out NBAtalk today and there was an article saying that Chicago and Detroit have a good chance of getting Tim Thomas from the Bucks. This means that if they are throwing the money at Tim then Cuttino's chances with those teams are really lowered. I know that they dont play the same position but if Cat really wants the big money he will stay with us. What do you guys think?

The entire situation is unpredictable. The Rockets have said that they're not sure where things are and Cuttino hasn't said jack s*** to anyone. Once all the other free agents fall into place, and Cuttino comes out of that shell he's been hiding in, everything should be much clearer.

    New Guy,

I totally agree, but I think this is the beginning of the free-agents starting to fall into place. If Thomas does indeed leave the Bucks for big money and a starting role, you have to think Mobley has no other place to go to besides staying in H-Town.

Remember, when a team loses their top free agent, they may have money to sign another if they weren't over the cap. A team like Toronto that loses McGrady could sign Cuttino, or if Milwakee loses Thomas (although they don't really need a SG). Chicago could sign Thomas and Cuttino to go along with Brand and Fizer, etc.

The positive is that the Rockets are offering Cat the maximum allowed. Other teams under the cap would have to negotiate how much they think Cat is worth, which could leave a bad taste in Mobley's mouth if there is a dispute.

Do you guys think Cuttino would really leave for the immediate 1 to 2 extra million dollars when we could make that up to him in the next contract? Is a starting role that important to him? do you think any other team (besides Chicago) would give him the green light like we do? Would he ditch the team after forcing us to pass on Alexander? I don't think so. Cuttino wants to win, and it will be a couple more years before chicago even breaks .500. I'm sick of some of you people saying, "well we don't need Cuttino anyway" when he hasn't even made his decision! If Cuttino leaves, that will set us back a whole lot. We need him, like it or not. Well, thats all for now.
