With wins over Morocco, Tunisia, and Madagascar, the Senegalese National Team finished 2nd in their group at the Africa Championships and qualified for the semi-finals where they will play Nigeria. Malick has played pretty well at the games in Egypt. In the game against Madagascar Malick had 7 pts, 11 rbs, 2 steals, and 2 blocked shots. Against Tunisia he had 15 pts, 5 rebounds, and 2 blocks. If they beat Nigeria today, they play the winner of the Egypt/Angola game for the African Championship and a trip to the Olympics next summer. I will post an update after todays game.
I remember not too long ago, not caring much for such ongoings... Now I'm searching Ebay for Team Senegal home jersey.
Thanks you very much for the update. I noticed that the Knicks signed both of their european big men 2nd round picks. Layden said he never thought twice about letting them go to Europe. If that is a Knicks philosophy, then I hope JVG still has some of it and keeps BAD stateside.
That Lampe signing is HUGE. Ifigured there was no way on hell they'd be able to sign him, but now he's going to be the steal of the draft. I really wish he had fallen low enough for the Rockets to take him. I wonder if anyone from the league tipped off the Knicks that they should take him in the 2nd round?
Lampe pickup is huge. That pick could single-handedly erase all of the bad will Layden has in NY. I have seen the guy play and it was just a major error that he did not go in the first round, even lottery. This guy can contribute right now.
all scouting reports had Lampe more NBA ready than Badiane...so I don't see the connection. Many had Lampe in the lottery. He fell purely because he couldn't buy himself out at a low rookie scale slot. It is actually a lot easier to sign him from the 2nd round rather than within the limitations of rookie scales. 2nd rounders are max'd only by the league maximum salary for a 0-7yr player. Meaning, from the 2nd round, the Knicks can pay him a salary of whatever it takes to pay off his team--not to mention the $385K they can pay directly to this team. They can give him a 25% signing bonus, too, which is hard to do with a rookie scale contract because the bonus counts towards salary.
yeah,,,hehe. didn't Lampe pretty much say that certain draft slots would not be able to pay him enough to buy him out. Then Layden lucks out with the 1st pick in the 2nd round, and can pay him a Toni Kukoc-type 2nd rounder contract.
NY signed two 2nd round picks. The second one was said to be not ready; however, Layden said his development would be best served if he is stateside.
not unless Lampe can erase people's memories. he can't can he? where to start... mcdyess last year, shandon anderson's contract, charlie ward's contract, houston's contract (the contract of every guard on the team), keeping chaney, drafting the 7' french guy that Vince dunked on during the olympics (he doesn't have a name anymore), getting rid of ewing (the fan-favorite knick since willis reed), etc.. sorry, that's all i can think of off the top of my head. there's just only so much garbage you can take in before you stop caring to remember..
Give Layden's reputation for utter incompetence, I would think that would be a great argument for leaving Badiane in Europe.
He grow up in Sweden....One time I played basketball with him, but we were like 9 years old back then....He was very tall but he didn“t dominate!.........Actually he was a crybaby but I guess that people change c
