Hello everyone. Is there any teaching certification program (any state, but Texas is better) that allows a person to teach temporarily while working on getting certified? Correct me if I'm wrong, but does a person have to train for about a year before he/she could enter the one year paid internship? So that's a year of more school debt after I graduate before I could start making real money. I'll graduate next either next Summer or Fall (if I have my eyes on graduate school and take more classes).

Is there any internship program that starts in the Spring? I've searched many and have not found any. Just wondering if any of you know one. Thank you.

    NYC Teaching Fellows

    Program Overview

Because effective teachers dramatically increase their students' academic success, the mission of the NYC Teaching Fellows program is to recruit and prepare high-quality, dedicated individuals to become teachers who raise student achievement in the New York City classrooms that need them most.

NYC Teaching Fellows are people like you - accountants, nurses, recent graduates, chief executives, secretaries, artists, reporters, and retirees - who have decided to use their diverse experiences, knowledge, and achievements to positively affect the lives of students. At the same time, each Fellow is pursuing his/her own education through a subsidized Master's degree program. Participation in the Fellowship does not require teaching experience or previous education coursework.

From over 115,000 applicants over the past eight years, NYCTF has provided New York City classrooms with over 13,000 high-quality new teachers.

    sounds pretty cool!

This is what I got from HISD website. (http://dept.houstonisd.org/acp/applicant/ques_and_ans3.htm)

"When will it be safe to quit my current job?

You will not receive a paycheck until the third week of employment, so if you are in the traditional cycle, you may want to continue working part-time in the summer."

What does this mean? That if I'm accepted to the program, I would be considered employed and paid while working on the certification?

I went through Region IV ACP...took 2-3 months of classes..then went straight to a paid internship, rather than student teaching.

Seemed like the fastest route to a paid teaching position.

A friend of mine did his alternative certification training this summer. It only took a week (4 hours a day). I'm serious. So now he's doing a paid internship for a year and will be fully certified after the year. Here's the company he used:

It's a pretty good deal. It's $4,000 but you only pay $400 up front. They start taking their cut out of your paycheck only when you become fully certified.

Their schedules might be different during the fall and spring but it should only be a handfull of classes (10 or less).

After your training, you find a school that will allow you to get a hands on training "internship". They'll help you, but if you fail the classes or fail the state test (ExCet test I think) for your subject area, then you won't be allowed to start teaching. Additionally, you have a find a school willing to let you teach there. You won't get paid unless you find a school to do an internship at. My friend who's doing it said that you technically get hired as a "staff" member and get paid as such. When you get fully certified then you can become a "faculty" member.

would anyone be able to help me find the starting salary, or even a salary chart, which shows that of teachers in the LA area?
