Well, HUGE game for TCU coming up this weekend. I know I'll definetly be watching. TCU has one hell of an amazing defense even if Blake doesn't play....but my money is on that he will be playing. TCU beat Baylor (not hard to do) last week 27-0, and is 5-0 in their last 5 games against BIG12 opponents. I'm ready for them to go 6-0. I'm not going to put money on them winning or anything, but I wouldn't be all that surprised either. UT didn't look to sharp last week when they barely held on for their win. So...before all you UT fans chime in... GO FROGS!!!!
Props to Texas for scheduling this game. A&M has been ducking TCU for years now. This is gonna be awesome..... TCU
Hopefully Tommy Blake can play. We will definately need him. The determining factor will be how A. Dalton handles the Texas defense.
No return game is scheduled, instead we'll be heading out west to play UTEP. As for this game, if last week's game is any indicator on how we'll play, UT will be in trouble. We played horrible on both sides of the ball and hopefully Mack and co. will figure out why we played like crap and work out the kinks.
Whoah, fellas. I am a TCU grad and a huge fan, but there is a huge difference between Baylor at home and UT on the road. We looked good. Really good. Our defense looked great. Texas looked mortal. Still, I think UT wins this game. I think their defense overpowers our offense. I hope I'm wrong. However, should we pull the upset...it will be as good as the Texans winning the superbowl.
as a UT fan, I must say that I am nervous our rushing game is very suspect and i'm not really on board the colt mccoy bandwagon, I would feel alot more comfortable with a 12 year old vince young back there
Would not surprise me at all to see my Horns get thumped by the Frogs this Saturday. TCU is a fundamentally sound, well coached team -> pretty much the opposite of Texas.
So Mack wins a national championship and has one of the top 3 programs in the country the last 10 years but he's not a good coach? Not sure I understand that one.
How is Texas one of the top 3 programs of the past 10 years? Top 10 I can buy, top 3 I don't think so.
They have the best winning percentage in college football from 97-06. USC is the only team with 2 National Championships so Texas is tied with 10 other teams with 1. Texas only has 1 conf. championship though. Florida St. has 7. Michigan 5. The criteria is somewhat subjective but I don't think you can dismiss Texas as a possible top 3 school.
I'll explain a little better. 1 Big 12 conference championship in 10 years. Can't punch the ball in for a TD from inside the 5. Starts less talented seniors over more talented less experienced underclassman. I could go on and on but I'm keepin my complaints in house. Bottom line is non sunshine pumping Horn fans realize this team is soft and should be ranked somewhere in the 15-20 range. If this team plays like it did against AST we're gonna get raped.
I think it is OK to dismiss them from top 3 contention and you pointed out some good points already to dismiss them.
Ugh. Please don't drag my comments into a debate about how they should be ranked in the AP poll in 07. I never said anything about that. I said that the program in the top 3 in the last 10 years. In respect to the comments you made about the Texas program, I don't understand how you can characterizes 10 different teams as having a hard time running the ball deep in the endzone. Your other detractions (like having underclassman not starting) seem pretty trivial and minuscule compared to wins. Please list your other complaints. I'm still not sure how they can detract from a **** load of 10 win seasons. I'm glad you brought that up because I forgot to mention how Texas is consistently in the top in recruiting which says a lot about the program as well. There are different ways you can weigh the different criteria. I did not say that I thought conference championships take precedence over wins.
Probably gonna get slammed again by Texas fans, but Mack Brown has never really been that good of a head coach. He has been a bad ass recruiter for numerous of years and I firmly believe that if it wasn't for the Vince Young era, Mack Brown would be coaching elsewhere. His teams have underperformed many many years. But again one of the top 3 recruiters in the NCAA hands down.
id say top 5 with usc, OK, UT, ohio st, miami being top 5 with a mention of texas a&m in there to. (kidding )
Feel free to dismiss UT from top-3 status if you want, but then go ahead and post your 3 best teams. Outside of USC, I could find similar flaws for every other team. It's funny how TCU gets all jazzed up over a 27 point home win over pitiful Baylor. UT's beaten Baylor by 30+ every season for the last 8 years. It's nothing to be proud of. We'll see how well they do against a quality program.
No team has more wins than Texas in the last 10 years. I don't see how you can say they have under preformed. People have been knocking Mack forever. He was the guy that couldn't win the big games until he knocked off Michigan in the Rose Bowl. (4-5 v. OU and 6-4 in bowls) He now has a national championship. What does he have to do to be considered a "good" coach?
