TCU goes to a big boys' league, and Big East improves its chances to keep its BCS bid. Win win for both.
Great for the Big East and TCU...but, by the looks of it, they're really screwing over the MWC. They take all of their data with them, leaving the MWC w/o any hopes of getting an automatic spot in the BCS.
First of all, the Big East is NOT as good as the Mountain West this year. However, this is still a good move for both the Big East and TCU. Travel budget as someone mentioned will stay the same as the Big East teams are about as far away as Wyoming, San Diego, Utah, BYU, UNLV. TCU only makes geographical sense in the Big 12. TCU will still easily win the Big East and football and baseball but it should be exciting to see.
MWC = WAC 2.0 Air Force and SDSU are solid teams but Wyoming, Colorado St, UNM, UNLV are the same as the bottom of the WAC. Don't forget the Nevada and Fresno St are joining the MWC and possibly Hawaii too, also rumors of Houston and SMU joining.
Good for TCU, although they picked probably the weakest "big" conference. Pitt and WVU are better than average-good teams annually and Connecticut is solid too. USF can be good in certain years.
You really think a team can just pick a conference to be in? SEC, Big 12, Big 10, Pac 10 didn't want TCU. ACC wasn't looking to expand......that leaves the Big East.
What would you rather have them do? Wait it out and hopefully one day one of those better AQ conferences extend an offer to them?
Pac 10 was looking for an expansion, didn't Utah and Colorado just join them? Very well could have been TCU if they really wanted to, instead of Utah
Because Utah and Colorado makes more sense geographically. When have you ever heard of the Pac 10 being interested in TCU? They aren't in a position where they can pick and choose what conference to join. TCU jumped on the only AQ conference interested in them. The Big East made this move so they wouldn't risk potentially losing their AQ status.
During the expansion talks this summer that most of the Pac-10 schools do not want religiously affiliated universities as part of their conference. They did not want Baylor or BYU for this reason. I assume that would preclude TCU from being in their plans. I believe Cal was the one that made the biggest stink about including religious schools in the Pac-10 expansion plans.
What the hell? Schools don't just go where they want to. TCU has no fan base. It has no TV potential. It's completely unattractive to major conferences. The only reason the Big East is taking them is because they are disaster of a football conference and need to improve there. Colorado and Utah both bring a lot of TVs and fans to the mix, which allows them to generate better TV contracts, etc. The Pac10 didn't even want Tech or OU without Texas. What makes you think they would remotely take TCU? Boise State is in the same boat; they bring nothing to the table for a major conference so they are stuck in the minor leagues.
