Forgive if already posted. TCU freshman kicker Kasey Davis was shot to death early Tuesday, his body found in his car by police in the parking lot of an apartment complex. The 20-year-old player had a gunshot wound to his chest and was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. Police arrested a suspect near the apartment minutes after getting a description from witnesses. Jeffrey Clay Lasiter had a rifle in the front seat of his car when he was pulled over. The 40-year-old Lasiter was charged with murder and is in the Montgomery County Jail. Police are unsure of a motive. Davis attended high school in this Houston suburb. Police said he apparently was visiting friends at the complex. Davis, a redshirt player and a walk-on, played in two games this season — against Oklahoma and Colorado State, both as a kickoff specialist. "Kasey was a team player and had a great future at TCU," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "He will be greatly missed. Our hearts and minds are with his family during this difficult time." The 14th-ranked Horned Frogs beat Iowa State 27-24 in the Houston Bowl on Saturday. Classes at TCU resume Jan. 17 http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060103...7paMOSl24cA;_ylu=X3oDMTA3MXN1bHE0BHNlYwN0bWE-
RIP My prayers are with his family, friends, and the TCU community. A football player at my university was shot and killed last year, so I know how hard a situation it is to deal with for not only his family but even the fans and students of the school in general.
What the hell is going on with all the crime increases lately? Crime is up across the board. Is it the influx of Katrina refugees like everyone is saying? Crime had previously dropped to near record lows. Now murders, rape, robberies are all up. If this keeps up they are going to have to bring back the "City Under Siege" program that used to run on channel 26. It's very disgusting and disheartening.
Most of it has to be from the Katrina refugees, most of them arn't working and are running out of $$$. Heard there was a 24% crime increase in Houston from Sept - Dec. Is scary to go out late in Downtown, Reliant Stadium area now.
What really made me take notice to this story was that just the other day, I was speaking with my mom who lives in The Woodlands (just south of Conroe on I-45) and she had mentioned that on the night of the game versus Iowa State, at around 2-o'clock in the morning, a TCU student, obviously under the influence of one or more mind-altering substances, broke into the house by climbing through my mom's bathroom window. . . . on the second floor, which can only be accessed by scaling the attached garage. Not knowing who was attempting to enter, my step-father naturally reacted quite violently to the intrusion, but the assailant was unfazed by repeated physical and verbal threats to his well-being. After taking what I can only assume to be a moderate to severe beating at the hands of my step-father (details weren't given as to the duration or scale of the physical altercation), my mother dragged the dazed & confused intruder all the way through her fairly sizable bathroom, in and out of her bedroom, down the stairs, and into the main dining area, where the two held an inpromptu prayer meeting for approximately the next half-hour. Soon after, the Montgomery County police dispatch arrived at the cul-de-sac and disbanded what was left of the drunken bunch of students who had originally assembled just hours after the game. My mom didn't press any charges, nor did any of the other neighbors (to the best of my knowledge), but was extremely shaken after the ordeal. Apparently what had happend was there had been a party at the next-door neighbor's home (I believe that there are two girls who hail from the street that attend TCU - one a TCU football cheerleader), where alcohol and other intoxicants were apparently readily available for consumption. According to various reports from other neighbors, football players were believed to have been spotted at the party and the intruder involved in the break-in at my mom's had physical attributes that are common among football players. Of course that's not to say that I think a TCU football player was responsible for the drunken adventure up and through my mother's bathroom window, however, I do find that event along with the tragedy which occured a mere 20 minutes to the north of my mom's home, to be a curious set of happenings. Certainly, I don't mean to take away from the awful events that wound up taking a young man's life, but it makes me wonder whether or not the shooting could have been justified. Regardless, my thoughts and prayers are with the victim's friends and family during this traumatic time. + -Turbo
I was in town for Christmas, and we went to see the Rockets on the 21st against the Raptors. On the way to our car after the game, a very large black man stopped us and asked us for money. First he asked who won. Then, he said he had been living under the bridge and just wanted some money for a cheeseburger. We were scared so we gave him like 50 cents. That was the first time that's ever happened to me downtown in a very public place like that, and I didn't link that to Katrina until just now.
I've had people come up and ask me for money in downtown and public places many times before Katrina. BTW, is there any evidence that Lasiter is a Katrina evacuee?
