http://www.clutchfans.net/news/1324/target_brandon_roy_or_is_he/ I don't trust a lot of information I get, even from reliable sources, when it comes to the draft because of the possibility you're being used to spread misinformation (which happens more than you may think). But I thought this was worth passing along.
Wow. I've been hot for getting Roy, but Gay would be amazing. A bit more risk, but a heck of a lot more upside, if he develops. Great scoop, Clutch, and I hope we get either one.
Btw, Clutch, don't you think posting this on here will result in other teams knowing? I mean, you know how information gets spread fast... I don't think the Rockets want the other teams to know, right?
It creates more confusion (and this site gets read, so it's out there), and confusion is CD's middle name. It's all good.
Thanks for the scoop. I agree that the amount of misinformation is amazing and you never know what the front office wants people to believe. Losing Head in the deal would be tough because it means McGrady would be almost exclusively a two. But I guess we'll see what happens.
Morey's analysis of Gay seems spot on. High reward potential, sure...but so was EG, and I'd most certainly, definitely, without a doubt in the world would rather have drafted Richard Jefferson...it's just so hard to tell. Analogy - Rudy Gay:Eddie Griffin as Ronnie Brewer:Richard Jefferson ??????? Keep in mind, I had the same concerns about losing assets to move up for Brandon Roy....thinking that Brewer seems like he does a lot of the same stuff. Which probably just means I've become a little jaded at the go for the homerun strategy.
hm....hmm.....i dont care, just as long as we dont get stuck with the 8th pick and end up with foye, williams, or brewer, i wundt mind them, but i am expectin much higher
I'm telling you, Rudy Gay is at the top of my list due to his size, length and skills. I've said on more than one occasion that the secret of these new-fangled lineups, and to thrive with and against them is to have a guy that's long and athletic enough to defend PFs, but quick and skilled enough to create mismatches on the other end. Once we get someone like that, everything else will fall into place. Well Rudy Gay is that someone, Brewer and Thomas might be those guys (Brewer might be too small while Thomas might not be skilled enough), but Gay is it for sure. Once we land someone like that, we'd be a hybrid of what Miami and Dallas was tossing out there. A dominant Big man, a dynamic perimeter player, and a PF that plays like a SF on offense creating all kinds of crazy mismatches. Hopefully if this is true, then the Rockets are on the same page that I am, and will continue to find that elusive "Killer Matchup Forward" regardless of whether we land Gay or not.
Just what we need, the first three players off the bench for JVG: Swift Gay Head. Sounds like a personal ad.
What doesn't make sense with this is Brandon missing the Charlotte workouts. He could be picked earlier, but now could fall.
More info... We are trying to get a guy who last name has 3 letters. Nice smoke screen, but which one is real? I'd guess his last name ends with a Y. And begins with R.
Hey, if we get Rudy or Roy, I'm psyched. I don't care if that means we give up Head, Juwan, or even Swift. I know Gay is a bit of a risk, but he's worth it. UConn players generally have a pretty good track record in the NBA. And Roy, IMHO, is risk-free. He'd be perfect. Get either one of those guys and this franchise is back on the upswing again. Big time. That crappy, injury-riddled season will have been worth it. Not sure I'd say that if we ended up with a next tier prospect like Brewer or Carney.
isn't Gay a SF pretty much? if so, would T-Mac swing between the 2 and 3 to give Gay time? or would they consider Gay in a small lineup at PF? (Howard got some time at PF for the Mavs and he is only 6'7', 201 with a long wingspan)
This makes sense to me. If you're worried about TMac playing the 3 , I don't think it matters that much as I see them being interchangeable on the D side of the frontline and giving us great flexibility on the O side. In a league where 6'7" Shawn Marion is one of the leading rebounders, I don't see why somebody with Gay's skill set couldn't guard a bunch of the 4s out there. Yep, he'd get toasted by KG and Duncan, but who doesn't? And KG or Duncan would have to guard him on the other end or pick up fouls guarding Yao. Besides, we have a history of putting a tall, decent shooting PF in name only on the offensive perimeter to either slash or knock down the open shot. Also, picking Gay probably means Swift or Howard are gone.
