The letter was sent to Leonard Walit, 72, who died with his 66-year-old wife Harriet in the July 11 blast. ``The responsibility to take such action is yours, and because of the severity of the condition, the work must begin immediately,'' said the letter, signed by Brooklyn borough building commissioner Tarek Zeid. The Walits' bodies, and that of a third victim, were trapped for hours in the wreckage of their four-story brownstone. The explosion was blamed on a leaky gas pipe. City Councilman Ken Fisher was appalled by Zeid's letter. ``How could you not know that Mr. Walit had perished in the explosion?'' he asked. ``This was not a normal circumstance and certainly deserved a response that reflected the tragedy involved.'' Paul Wein, a spokesman for the Buildings Department, apologized for the error Friday and offered condolences to the Walits' relatives. ``They have suffered a great deal and we sympathize with them during their time of loss,'' Wein said. ``Our actions were never meant to add to their grief, and we are very sorry.'' ------------------ Stay Cool...

True, similar, and sad story... When I worked at the Post Oak YMCA a few years back, I was a "Men's Area Attendant". Basically, I got to clean the lockers, was stank workout clothes, keep the weight room clean, bounce free-loaders from the basketball court, etc. Another thing we had to do was to call teams of the various leagues at the Y. During one softball season I had to call the team captains of some teams due to a rainout the previous week. Well, I'm going along calling and I get to about the 2nd or 3rd to last team. I call the guy at his office. Here's how the conversation went: Talk about a situation you never want to be in.... ------------------ I have a dream.........his name's Hakeem. DREAMer's Rocket Page
