Everyone wants to say we don't have enough talent which maybe true but we do have SOME TALENT J Howard Mo Taylor Jim Jackson Bob Sura Deke Mutombo These are PROVEN NBA talents Pagett to a lesser Extent Unproven but with Potential Boki ABarrett Bowen My opinion is that JVG need to bring out their talents more i know i know. . folx will say I'm just finding a way to blame JVG but honestly I do not Rocket River
Sounds reasonable to me (something sorely lacking 'round these parts, lately). This team is capable, as they've shown, of both very effective defense and 30-point quarters (although I don't recall which teams we achieved 30 against).
No, those guys are not talented players. Mo Taylor used to provide some offense in year's passed, but this year when we need it most he cannot produce. Him and Juwan Howard are horrible defenders and rebounders, and they both must go ASAP. Jim Jackson spots up and shoots, he's good for a few jumpers, but I expected more out of him, and he's getting old, he needs to go. Bob Sura is decent, but he cannot score and we need more scoring. Dikembe is good for 10 min a game, that's not enough.
Every player has talent to the home team fans. But really, how talented are these guys? Most of them have played with other teams and have had different coaches. Most of these players have played for losing teams. I bet that if you combine their wins and losses, that they had with other teams they, you would get a pathetic losing percentage. Most of them were role player on losing teams. I am sorry to say but that’s not talent. JVG has a bunch of scrubs and elderly veterans to work with. Scrubs and elderly veterans that have played on losing teams. Just because they put on a Rocket uniform does not automatically give them talent or potential.
Don't want to argue with you if they are talented enough to be full time starters in the play off caliber team. Even though we consider them good talents, they just don't fit very well with the stars we have now. Still, it is still up to JVG to find the best combination to best utililize the players he has now. Keep complaining we don't have right personnel obvious did not do any good to the player's confidence and performance on the court. JVG need find OTHER ways to motive them other than bashing them publically all the time.
I think trying to pinpoint the Rockets problems this season is a mistake because there are so many problems with this team right now contributing to their sub-.500 play, not just one problem. All have been mentioned on these boards, but the fact is that all of them need to be addressed, not just one of them. It's a problem that the Rockets power forward and point guard situation is pathetic. It's a problem that Yao just doesn't seem to be molding into the superstar the Rockets were pinning their hopes on him becoming. It's true that JVG teams usually are pathetic at the offensive end. It's true that the team overall lacks a killer instinct. All of these things are problems and I don't see the team being able to address all of these problems. Addressing one problem (such as firing Van Gundy as many have called for as of late) is not going to magically turn things around so I'm thinking more and more that this season will probably end up being a huge letdown. The Rockets organization will have a lot of decisions to make in the offseason, none tougher than whether or not they want to build their franchise around Yao Ming who in year 3 is at the very least instilling some doubt that he is a cornerstone of a contending franchise. They have no desireables to offer in trade making a quick fix even more difficult. This may be a situation where the team simply has to endure some down years in order to allow some bad contracts to come off the books in order to get into the free agent game. If last offseason is any indicator, the price on free agents is inflated right now. You have to pay more than a player is really worth in the current environment. Many want to stay positive with respect to this team, but at least in this fan's opinion, the writing is on the wall.
I just think Talent . . or lack there of. . it a weak argument I think we have some talent . . I know we have 1st round of the playoffs type talent Rocket River
We actually had TWO 30 pt quarters in that first Charlotte game. But an 11 pt 4th quarter doomed us. Things were looking so good at the 36 minute mark of that game. But now after two breakdowns vs the Bobcats, I don't know what to think about the rest of the season.
JVG brings a serious lack of talent at the head coaching position and makes it almost impossible to evaluate the talent on the rest of the team.
Rocket River, I think that talent is really not the issue here, as I have said in a previous thread. The Rockets look 'good' on paper, but reality is they DON'T fit one another on the court, there is no chemistry between any of them pretty much, and the pieces just don't fit together. It is like trying to fit a tire on a wheel that will never fit it, you just keep trying endlessly but you know the results... --Tiger
Exactly. Before the season started I think most of us looked at the roster and saw two allstars with a bunch of nice role-players. Hell, most here were talking about them competing for a 4th seed in the playoffs. This team just hasn't gelled like we all thought they would by now and it's frustrating.
I agree, talent is not the issue. The issue is chemistry and knowing your role. A good General is the key to the Rockets problems. If you look back about 5 or 6 years ago, before Phil came to town, the Lakers were having the same arguement about their team. They had the talent, the problem was leadership and chemistry. The Rockets have the talent and there are winning teams with less talent than the Rockets. Like I keep saying, It doesn't matter how much talent we have on this team, if the Leadership doesn't change they will still fail.
I'd say Talents is like a Cube. You have some good sides and some crappy sides. It is up to JVG"s system to expose only the good sides to our opponents and hide the crappy sides. So far, JVG is doing a pretty poor job of that.
From where I sit, I don't think this cast of characters really needs any help from JVG to look average. They appear to be able to do that just fine on their own...
We do have talent. I don't think we have more talent than many of the other team in the West Phoenix w/o Amare and Nash Marion Johnson Richardson Barbosa Seattle w/o Ray Ray and Shard Ridnour Daniels Flip Fortson Radman Sacramento w/o Webber and Peja Bibby Miller Jackson Christie Ostertag Lakers w/o Kobe and Odom Butler Mihm Grant Atkins J.Jones Minny w/o Garnett and Cassell Wally Spree Hudson Kandi E.Johnson Madsen E.Griffen Hassell Portland w/o Randolph and Shareef DA Damon NVE Ratliff Miles Patterson Telfair Clippers w/o Brand and Maggette Jaric Livingston Kaman Wilcox Simmons Kittles Memphis w/o Pau and JWill Bonzi Wright Posey Watson Swift Battier Cardinal Dallas w/o Dirk and Finley Damp Terry Harris Armstrong Daniels Howard San Antonio w/o Duncan and Parker Ginobili Barry Bowen Rasho Robert Rose Brown Utah w/o Kirilenko and Boozer Lopez Okur Arroyo Bell Harpring Eisley Giricek You could argue that all of those teams have more talent than us. Once you get past the two best players on each team, the only teams that I'd say we have an edge on us, talent-wise, are New Orleans and Golden State. (Note: That doesn't explain the horrendous record vs. the East)
