Even before T-Mac's shoulder injury, I often read about the reason for T-Mac's poor shooting in the early part of a game for not being "loosening up" enough. I just read a sentence in a piece today says "Before receiving his injection, McGrady had typically gotten off to slow starts in games before his shoulder loosened up from a pregame pain-killer." This makes me wonder why T-Mac can't do more pre-game prep work to make himself "loosening up" more? In this case of injury, can he take his pre-game pain-killer a little earlier?
Buddy, I've stopped trying to figure out Mr. McGrady. Some nights he's an offensive juggernaut, others he's a triple double, others he's hiding behind the likes of Rafer and Scola to carry the team. It's a crap shoot with T-Mac.
i hope you're not right. man first of all, last few games (maybe not clippers) he has been attacking the basket, at least trying. the other thing is that refs don't call ANYTHING for him
I have always been a bit ticked at his pregame routines, but as far as the shoulder is concerned I don't think more warmup would help his arm. I think he gets off to the slow starts because the shot doesn't actually kick in until midway through the game. No warmup in the world would help that, and if he took it earlier I am sure it would wear off by the end of the game, which could lead to major pain.
I agree. He's had several quotes where he explains that he was ineffective in the 1st half because it took him time to get warmed up and get the kinks out. I could never understand why he didn't just come in earlier and get warm BEFORE tip-off. I WANT to like T-Mac, really I do. He just make it so damn hard sometimes! -Humer
