First and foremost I think T-Mac is done playing for the Rockets. However this is very similar to Baron Davis when he was traded by New Orleans back 2005. He was coming off a sub-par injury forced season and many thought his career was done. Going to Golden State changed his enviroment and Don Nelson let him play in a role he is more comfortable with. I can see the same happening for McGrady if he gets traded to a team where he fits in better. Perhaps Phoenix would be the right team, with Nash in charge of playing PG, Tracy could assume his role of being a wingman and playing fastbreak uptempo more often. Whatever is the case I think T-Mac is going to find a way to rejuvenate his career somewhere other than Houston.

Good luck T-Mac and thanks for all the memories both good and bad!

Baron Davis can still play. Let's see about Mcgrady.

Three of the top four threads are now about Tracy. I wish Clutch would consider just taking one of them and making it a sticky, because this topic is only going to become more heated as the Summer wears on.

Baron Davis plays well in certain systems like Don Nelson's.

He doesn't play well in Dunleavy's system.

This is why Sam Cassell was so awesome, he played well in every system.

    Rudy T
    Calipari
    Karl
    Sanders
    Dunleavy

Baron Davis was also 26 at the time. If Mcgrady couldn't cut it here where he had every opportunity in the world and basically forced his way to Houston then I can't really see him being succesful anywhere else. It's a shame too cause he was one of my favorite players from a talent/skill set point.

This my opinion but I think T-Mac was never built to play the point-forward where he has to create the offense. He is not LeBron and doesn't have the same skills to play that way. He really needs to play with a distributing PG like Nash to take the pressure away from being a playmaker. The criticism McGrady gets for hogging the ball and making bad decisions is plain out wrong. He is one of the best passers in the league for his size and position however in years passed we never had good players that could make shots even when left wide open by the defense. I can make a video of hundreds of shots Rockets have missed when T-Mac set them up perfectly wide open. Battier, Alston, and Head are the top 3 offenders. Look McGrady is not completely broken, he can be salvaged if he plays for the right team.

I still have yet to figure out why people think T-mac fits an uptempo type team.

I know, he walks it up, controls the ball and dictates the offense....he has never run all that much.

They think of him as a EXPLOSIVE player that likes to dunk the ball. Thats pretty much the reason.

When Rafer would try to push the ball up the court quickly only one guy would run with him and that was Scola. Usually Rafer would end up having to wait on everyone else to come down the court and by then the defense had set up.

There is no redemption for Tmac. Even without the injuries he would be past his prime. Even if he recovers from microfracture surgery I expect his efficiency to be the lowest of his career (except for last season).

The guy is so mentally weak that he won't be able to give a full effort in a contract year. He should retire so he can at least have the flashy stats to brag about. If he plays another 3-4 years he will surely pull those down significantly and end being remembered more like Antoine Walker than like Kobe Bryant.

his last season in new orleans, he shot 37%, and missed quite a few games. so there were no signs he was getting better (back, knee problems)

he came to golden state with a perfect coach and it rejuvenated his career. though he started sucking last year with the clippers again though -> system player.

there's no doubt tracy can still play. but i do agree he won't play with us. so good post OP. hopefully we can net some good players in return for mcgrady.

If I am reading this post correctly, you start out by saying McGrady doesn't have the skills to create offense and needs somebody else to be the playmaker then you spend the rest of the post talking about how he is one of the best passers/playmakers in the league.

I trust DM, he's done us well so far. I still have a shred of hope that we see TMac take the court in a Rox uniform. Dude has been one of the more gifted players in the last 10yrs. I realize the last 3 years have been a big frustrating pain in the arse, but maybe taking this extended time off to get fixed right is what he needs. I really hope we don't get rid of Tracy for some mediocre deal....I'd rather keep him than sell him cheap.
