Pretty much speculation but still something to think about, I really dont think this is the type of deal we would do with McGrady, I don't see someone trading for McGradys expiring deal while giving up equal expiring deals.

    Knicks rumor

    T-Mac could be ultimate Rent-A-Knick
    May 11, 2009

You see an injured Tracy McGrady sitting on the Rockets bench, looking a little puffy and carrying a big fat contract and you automatically think he’d be perfect for the Knicks. Right?

Yes, McGrady is the ultimate Rent-A-Knick for Donnie Walsh and Mike D’Antoni. His $22.5 million salary comes off the books next July and if he can recover from microfracture knee surgery - I know that’s a big if - McGrady could be the play-maker that D’Antoni covets.

The Knicks could dump the expiring contracts of Larry Hughes and Cuttino Mobley on the Rockets to make the deal work and just like that Walsh could add an All-Star caliber talent who could make the Knicks a playoff contender and perhaps more attractive to LeBron James.

I know McGrady has never been out of the first round but unlike the Knicks at least he gets to the playoffs.

The one major drawback is that there is no guarantee that McGrady will be ready for the start of the 2009-10 season. He’s currently working out in Chicago with noted trainer Tim Grover, who once trained Michael Jordan and also has Eddy Curry on his resume.

    ***

There is a report that the Knicks have promised Stephen Curry they will select him eighth overall. I’m also hearing they promised Blake Griffin they will take him first and promised Ricky Rubio they would take him second.

The only reason you would trade Tmac's expiring for a set of expirings is to "split up" Tmac's huge 21M contact into 2 smaller ones, i.e. 11 & 10, for the sole purpose for more flexibility in salary matching purposes for other trades.

So, why would the Rockets make that trade? Seems a bit pointless.

What incentive would we have to dump McGrady's expiring contract for two other expirings?

If Wilson Chandler isn't involved in the deal, I don't see how we'll do it.

Did the writer actually say Larry Hughes? Pfttt. we don't want that mini t-mac on this roster.

Just give us Chandler and someone.

The NYC press would probably drive poor Tracy to suicide if he ever got shipped there.

Why would they want to trade us a player with heart problems to get another player with heart problems?

Agreed. If some Rox fans around here sound bad when it comes to Tmac, that's nothing compared to NY.

That said, this proposed rumor is unbelievable. Why would we trade an expiring guy who still has a ton of potential for 2 expiring contracts w/ no potential. Isaiah is not our GM.

I would much rather take the chance on McGrady coming back with a vengence next year, than pickup two expiring contracts.

We have a great team intact, why prepare for a big time free agent that we won't get in 2010? D Wade most likely will resign, as will kobe and lebron. Chris Bosh will be the last guy available, but we have Yao so he is out of the picture.

We are in a tied series with the best team in the west. We are missing two superstars. And yall want to completely revamp our roster?

McGrady has shown he can flourish in our system while making many players around him better. The only time he struggled, was because he was injured.

Just to put things in perspective, many slashers have injury problems. Anyone who goes as hard as McGrady consistently to the hole is going to have some injuries flare up. The best slasher in the league (D Wade) has had more injury problems at the begining of his career than McGrady ever did.

I know everyone loves blaming mcgrady for all our problems, but from a pure basketball standpoint, he is our most valuable option in the near future. He is a risk, but a risk many general managers would be willing to take.

Good thing Daryl Morey will make the decision, and not the general public on this forum... because if we had a poll on every player throughout this season, I think even our 9 year old towel boy would get the ax.

He would be great for the D'Antoni's system. He will get to take alot of shots and play no defense.

I've always wanted Tmac to dump his original trainer and get with Tim Grover. I just don't think Wayne Hall was working out Tmac's body correctly.

Wow. If that's what it takes to write for the NY Daily News where do I sign up?

    * He doesn't know there is no way Tracy is ready for the start of next season, may not even be ready by the end.
    * Completely ignores trade rule #2: what's in it for the other team (#1 being what's in it for your team)
    * 2nd paragraph he says McGrady could be the ultimate rent-a-knick, then in 3rd paragraph somehow they are going to keep McGrady and that makes the team more attractive to LeBron? Heard of the salary cap at all?

Personal opinion, but talk about McGrady in a way that makes me think he didn't watacch a Rockets game this year.

Oh yeah, his other blog entries suck too.

It's a contract year for TMac. Expect a year that exceeds expectations.
