I am beginning to think that we should Rest T-Mac esp in the games against 'weaker' teams If he can go against the spurs. . Let's do it because we will need him .. but when we play NO/OK . .. i think he should sit I don't think he would be the difference maker in that game we should win without him I guess it is a testament to my confidence in Yao Rocket River
I remember hearing Dawson on the radio saying they could rest him for the rest of the season and this could still flare up the next time he played.
I think resting will definately reduce the risk of re-injury and give the body a chance to heal. That statement is a tricky expression. Of coure it "can", with less possibility!
I think, above all, how T-Mac feels about playing should be the largest factor in deciding to play. However, if we were to rest T-Mac, I would prefer to rest him against teams behind us in the standings, or way ahead of us in the standings, but not against teams we have a decent chance of catching. I think the opportunity to gain a full game on NOK, SAC, UTA, LAL, MEM is too important to risk, while the probably of beating DAL, SAS, PHO with a diminished T-Mac wouldn't justify the risk of further injury.
Uhm....last time I checcked we havent beaten NO/OK yet this year. And, being 3 out of the last playoff spot, I wouldnt have the attitude of "this is a game can win WITHOUT McGrady." We cant afford to slip up at all at this point!
I would rest him, it does no good to play him if he can't perform. Some people have a high tolerance of pain, and can play through it, some can't. I don't want him trying, or out there trying to protect his back...he either goes all out, or he should sit. DD
I would rather have T-Mac rest for next season. Seems like that is the only way he will be able to get any better. T-Mac needs time away from the game to get everything that is bothering him solved. I believe that is the only way T-Mac can get better, just shut it down till next season.
I can bet as a coach this is extremely frustrating, trying to come up with a game plan utilizing one of your stars, not knowing mentally or physically if he can go and if so, for how long...
Not wise. Given his current condition, a far superior strategy would be playing him against weak to medium strength opponents, or the teams we are "supposed" to beat, but rest him when we play tough opponents that we have little chance to defeat. This is a page from Sun Tze's Art of War.
Tracy McG is needed for every game that he is able to play in, even if its only like the last game playing about 20 mins per. If he is stiff he could be the main playmaker and seldom score, his contribution to the team is necessary if we are to be in the playoffs.
But how many tough opponents are left on Rockets's schedule? And how many more wins do Rockets need? We play Dallas and Spurs 5 more times, we have to steal at least 2 of them to keep our chance.
Desperate situation calls for desperate measure. We are not that desperate yet. Rest T-Mac for the SAS game this Sunday if he's not nearly recovered.
I asked this in another thread today but didnt get a response.. Does anyone know if surgery is an option and if so, how effective could it be in relieving tension on his back?? From what I understand he doesn't wanna have to go through surgery and would rather retire...
I would like to rest TMac in the long run, but I do want Rockets to make playoff this year. Any other options?
I understand what you guys are saying, but I'm gonna disagree. I think if Tmac can get on the court, then he should. Until we are eliminated from the playoffs (or for sure in ) I want him on the court.
Question. If we have to "steal" wins against the Spurs and Mavs do we really need to go balls-to-the-wall in faint hopes of grabbing the 8th seed? Woo hoo. But everything about T-Mac's back has nothing to do with rest so the only good sitting him would do is decrease mileage when he felt good enough to play. Woo hoo. This offseason around here is going to get very twisted in a hurry.
