Thanks to Shehzad for linking this in the No T-Mac Tonight thread.

Think this deserves its own thread so people don't overreact and are assured that T-Mac isn't going down for a week or more (hopefully).

McGrady misses Phoenix game with back injury
    January 17, 2007

HOUSTON (AP) -- Tracy McGrady sat out the Rockets' game against Phoenix on Wednesday night because of soreness in his lower back.

McGrady scored a season-high 45 points Tuesday in a 109-96 loss in Dallas. He left the game with a stiff back with 2:14 remaining, but said the injury was "nothing major."

McGrady said Wednesday he would be ready for the Rockets' next game, against Denver on Saturday.

"I'm not concerned about my back at all," McGrady said. "It tightened on me last night and we're just taking the precaution to not go out and try to rush back. I have a few days to rest, get some treatment and I'll be back Saturday."

McGrady, 27, sat out seven games in December with back spasms. He had averaged 28.6 points since returning, topping 30 points eight times. The six-time All-Star missed 34 games last season because of recurring back problems, but McGrady said this injury was not related to those.

"This is different than what I've been dealing with in the past," McGrady said.

McGrady carried the Rockets to a 9-3 record after Yao Ming broke a bone under his right knee on Dec. 23 against the Los Angeles Clippers. Yao is expected to be out until late February.

The Rockets are 1-8 without both Yao and McGrady.

When did we win the one game without Yao and McGrady?

Anyways... T-mac seems pretty confident about it... lets hope he's not just being optimistic.

I think JVG put it well when he said TMac's health is "on a day-to-day basis, everyday." From here on out, I think we can pencil at least 20 missed games from him per season. It's a whole lot better than not having him at all but it means our wing and backcourt depth must be exceptional. I'm pretty comfortable knowing Snyder and Wells can contribute solidly in his absence, and its circumstances such as these that make me hesitant to trade Wells this season.

I hope he's right and sitting out tonight is just a precaution. Good judgment by the Rockets.

this is why it would be good to have a maggette or steve francis back on this team. so t mac can have these days off because the back will always be a problem and can anyone think of a better insurance policy?

it's ok that he took this night off. it probably wasn't going to be a win anyway. saturday is very winable so i'm happy he's able to rest and get treatment for then.

if he can tough if out saturday he will have 3 days off before the spurs game. if we wants to rest that one i'd be ok with that because that would give him 5 days to rest and get treatment before a VERY EASY schedule which we need to capitalize on (por, phi, sea, nok, min, mem).

we can win all of those if tmac is able to take a week off and be good to go against them.

hmmm...remember when T-Mac had that first back spasm this season? he said he was sure he would play the next game against the Lakers.

instead he missed the next 7 games. i don't like this at all.

Will Francis be bought out by the Knicks and I don't think JVG would want Steve back.

It's never serious with Tmac. He is never concerned and he will always be back the next game. Then, of course, he misses 7 games or half a season but it's all good.

    but...

For once, I think this is different. He didn't appear to be having spasms. I would imagine playing tonight after playing 40 minutes last night was probably a risk the organization did not want to take. Especially to play a team that was probably going to beat us anyway. This way Tmac gets 4 full days of rest.
