We Got Seoul

Yo this is T-MAC and I just arrived in Seoul for my third straight summer adidas T-MAC Asia Tour. Over the next seven days I will visit Seoul (South Korea), Guangzhou (China), Manila (Philippines) and Hong Kong. Every year I look forward to coming to Asia, the fans over here show me so much love. Last season my jersey was the top selling jersey in Asia, so I know they have a love for me and what I do and that is what makes these trips truly special.

Today we started off by doing a couple of one-on-one interviews with ESPN and Rookie Magazine and then we had a press conference to officially launch the adidas T-MAC Asia Tour and my visit to Seoul. As we did last year adidas and I decided to do a shoe specifically for my fans in Asia. It is the T-MAC 1 in all white with my logo in gold. There are only 1,600 numbered pairs available and as I said are only available in Asia for my Asian fans.

At the press conference, I was surprised by the number of media at the event. There had to have been about 80 different media all from Korea. For a market where basketball is not as hot as it once was, it was good to see the media out and supporting us.

From the press conference we went to lunch. It was the first time I tried duck, crispy fried duck. And I tried baked ox tail over in Korea -- go figure. After lunch we toured the mall and made our way to the adidas store. I saw a number of things in the store that were cool and I wanted, but couldn't get because they did have my sizes (3XL tall for shirts and 15 for shoes).

Then from there went back to the hotel to get some rest! Got me a good hour and half of much needed nap. When I woke up we went to an arena that was used for the 1988 Olympics and did a T-MAC fan event. The event was a basketball clinic, we had a couple of hip hop shows and just an overall good time with over 1,000 of my fans.

Well I am heading out to the club to go out and have a nice time with the Korean folks. I will check in with you guys tomorrow to let you know how my day goes.

'Korean basketball has great potential to grow'
McGrady says with hard work Korean players could play in NBA

National Basketball Association star Tracy McGrady praised Korea's potential in basketball at a press conference yesterday at COEX Intercontinental Hotel in southern Seoul.

He said that basketball in Korea has grown rapidly in recent years and with time, basketball will grow a lot here.

Korean basketball player Kim Ju sung, of Wonju Dongbu Promy, attended the news conference. He is one of the nation's best basketball players.

McGrady's visit to Korea was part of a campaign to increase the interest in basketball in Asia and to promote the launch of adidas A.G.'s limited edition T MAC1.

The limited edition footwear is an all white version of the best selling original, T MAC1, which was launched by the company in 2001. The company has produced 1,650 pairs of the limited edition shoes to commemorate McGrady's Asian tour. The sales will be restricted in the Asia Pacific region.

"Korea is the first stop of my tour of Asia and I hope to leave behind some of the support and love Korean fans have shown me in the past," said McGrady.

"I am hoping that this visit will prove to be a chance to promote basketball among the nation's young people."

McGrady has always stressed that basketball is a sport that can help young people develop healthy bodies and minds.

Born in 1979, McGrady made his NBA debut in 1997 with the Toronto Raptors. He currently plays for the Houston Rockets.

Before his debut, he attracted the attention in the U.S. basketball community with his performance at the adidas's ABCD Camp.

McGrady has received several NBA awards, including the Most Improved Player in 2001 and the scoring title for two consecutive years. His statistics have been compared to that of NBA's most famous star, Michael Jordan.

Aside from the awards, he is perhaps most famous for scoring 13 points in the last 35 seconds of a game against the San Antonio Spurs in 2004. He hit the winning 3 pointer with less than two seconds left in the game.

"That is a game I will not be able to forget. I was highly motivated to turn the tables and win the game for the Houston Rockets," he said.

Off the court, he has been involved with numerous charity events. In 2001 he established the Tracy McGrady Foundation to help disadvantaged children and families.

McGrady received a basketball signed by Kim and his teammates. In return, he presented Kim with a signed pair of shoes ?the limited edition T MAC1.

McGrady said that with hard work Kim could play in the NBA.

When asked about the chances of Korean players entering the NBA, he said that with hard work and practice anything is possible.

"Yao Ming is a good example for Asian players wanting to play in the NBA," he said.

"I have never seen anyone who works as hard as Yao. Hard work is what it comes down to if you want to be the best."

He also added that Ha Seung jin, a center for the Milwaukee Bucks, should be used as an example for Korean basketball players who have NBA ambitions.

McGrady also said, "My first and foremost goal is to regain my health and get back to the court and play with the Rockets," he said.

"The U.S. team has a strong lineup and is led by a legendary coach. I am sure they have a good chance of bringing home the gold (in the 2008 Beijing Olympics)."

After the news conference, McGrady visited an adidas store in Samseong dong, southern Seoul. He signed autographs there for randomly selected fans.

Also, the "Tracy McGrady Basketball Clinic" was held at a fencing stadium in Seoul's Olympic Park. More than 1,000 fans attended the event.

McGrady heads to Guangzhou, China, today to continue the second leg of his Asian tour. In Guangzhou, he will take part in events promoting three on three basketball.

McGrady is also set to go to Manila and Hong Kong, where the tour will end on Sept. 1.

I hate to be the first to say this, but I do think he looks kinda big. The only thing is I can't tell if it's fat or if it's just size in general.

One thing is for sure. His arms look massive now. I just hope it's muscle.

I need to get me one of those.

for those who think he is fat, he does to look to have a little fat on him but nothing that training camp cant get him into shape into. the guy hardly played any games last season so he is going to have a few extra pounds, the players i dont ever worry about being in shape and working hard are t-mac and yao.
