Last year, I thought okay this guy is a terrible, but maybe after a year he will settle into his role with the Rockets. Boy was I mistaken. Maybe its just me, but he brings a high school, and very unprofessional feel to the game. Come on now "WHOSE BALL IS IT?" , "COME ON SIXTH MAN, I CAN'T HEAR YOU", "RYAN BOWEN AT THE LINE SHOOTING TWO", (when it was actually Nachbar). I really wish the Rockets would replace him with a more traditional PA guy. I litterally cringed every time he opened his mouth. Since I haven't been to other NBA cities, I wonder if we are the only town subject to this rah rah PA garbage. If we are at an important juncture of the game we will start chanting defense, we really do not need to hear it over and over in the 2nd quarter. There were some people sitting next to me from Memphis and they too could not believe how bad he was. Just wanted to vent and see if anyone else has the same thoughts.
LOL..."that Come one 6th Man I can't hear you" or "louder, louder" is really annoying. But the game ops people tell him to say all that crap. If it was up to him, he'd be saying different things. That being said, the crowds at the Rockets games are pretty lame. When I say crowds, I'm referring to the corporate people that sit in the club sections where I usually sit. These people sit on their ass the whole game and don't make a sound. It's a sporting event people! Also, 1/3 of the west club left at the start of overtime during the Sac game. The real fans are on the upper bowl. It's a whole different environment up there.
The announcements have improved a lot since last season. Still have trouble listening to his "pleads," but Im getting use to it. What was wrong with the old guy? I though he was one of the best in the biz, bring him back.
okay...I'm a season ticket holder, and this is my take... last year I thought he sounded uncomfortable...but this year I think he's been pretty good... but really, who gives a crap anyway At the end of the day, t-gray does not make or break this team. He's just doing his job. he's t-gray, not t-mac...this thread is silly
When he frist got the job he was pretty damn bad & i really mean that but the more i listen to him the more i get used to him. So i say hes okay by me. By no streach of the imagination do i love him though!
I wish we had a regular PA announcer, like we have at Astros or Texans games. I get sick of hearing him all the time trying to be a cheerleader - we already have those. I don't need to be hearing the PA announcer during timeouts.
so wait... Who's ball is it? I was at the game last night and I thought he was better this time compared to last year. But I agree with most of you here. The "Who's ball is it?" and the "Louder." stuff is pretty lame. I remember in the TNT broadcast for one of the preseason games this year... The courtside play-by-play guys were cracking up every time T-Gray said "Who's ball is it?"
The guy has sucked ever since he took the job. I miss our "Y'all Ready for This" music and power intros by Matt J and the other dude before him.
Oh another thing I noticed was that the music was kinda lame. In preseason, the intro used to be U2's Vertigo which I thought was awesome but last night it was the old song they used last year, "I won't be fooled again?". I didn't think it worked as well with the intro. The other song that I thought was lame was when the powerdancers did a routine to "My Sharona". Why is that song so popular?!?
I noticed I heard a lot of old songs that they have played over and over the past few years. Besides Vertigo, why don't they play some new ****? How about this....fire T-Gray, get someone who can do the job, and that might fix the problem?
Yeah, during one of the timeouts, they did play Franz Ferdinand's "Take me out" which was also cool. But I totally agree with you, they need to play more power songs like "Y'all ready for this" and "Everybody dance now" etc.
Last year was pretty bad. He sounded uncomfortable. And I didnt like him, I wanted the old guy. This year he's gotten better, and it doesnt bother me at all. Id say he's better than good, but not great. (Pistons announcer being an example of great in the playoffs) The "Who's ball is it?" is actually starting to work! Im suprised because most fans at the game in my section are so lame. The guy is only a sophmore, give him a chance. If he gets better at this pace, he will be great soon. and, be thankful for what you have. Knowing the Rockets organization, they might replace him with Van Chancellor!?!? "Whos bawl-iz-it!?!? Rok-itz-bawl !!!"- Van
Really? I thought the music is a whole lot better than last season. They are playing a lot of rock which is real cool. I love using The Who as our opening.
If he were to not use the "Louder......louder" I would be able to tolerate him. But I think he sux compared to the old one we used to have.
i just hate the intro music for our starting lineup, doesnt get anyone hyped up..and to be honest i dont think its even that loud..beg of a game i think its impt to hype of the crowd as much as possible
Man T-grey is alot better than last year. He does seem more comfortable. Think T-grey as the Rockets hype man! hahaha. Well we have lame ass hold people sitting in the lower bowl section and we need the arena to be loud. T-grey helps that, so I appreciate him, and im glad he's our PA guy. Now the music playing during the game is horrible. We need someone new..they need to play more hiphop.
Granted, I haven't been to a game in the Toyota Center, but some of the stuff that comes through on television sounds terrible. I actually like the idea of the "Who's Ball Is it?" considering it seems to be the one thing that is getting the fans into the game. However, his "DEFENSE" chants that he tries to start during odd points in the game are pretty stupid. It's really funny on TV cuz you'll hear him say that and then NO ONE in the crowd comes through on tv. Also, it's funny how the local announcers for visiting teams on league pass almost ALWAYS note how quiet and empty the arena is in Houston. The Rockets used to have really good attendence. Why did it drop so bad? We've had exciting players and at least been decent (even during the non-playoff years). The only time I've seen a packed house on TV (even for the games declared "sold out") were when we played the Lakers w/Shaq. I think the Sacramento game was "sold out," but there were still tons of empty seats.
I crack up on the team intro asking the fans, "ARE YOU IN" and the crowd is just S I L E N T ..... you can hear crickets chirp... The key here is to EDUCATE/TRAIN the crowd.... "OK fans, when I say ARE YOU IN, you holler and scream.." I think it's just hilarious to hear how our fans don't react...
