People who know say Sunday's NBA playoff game against Dallas at Target Center could be Wally Szczerbiak's last for the Timberwolves.

The Wolves won't say they intend to trade Szczerbiak, but it's clear they will try to make a major deal for him in an effort to improve for next season. The probability of trading Szczerbiak existed before the playoffs.

wow. would you guys go for wally over lewis or odom? id think about it, tho it would be a pain in the ass to keep writing his name.

We have nothing they want. They are going to get some top name players offered for Wally (andre miller, etc..).. who are we going to offer? Kenny Thomas?

I like his pure shooting ability. He's ranked 4th (.455) in the NBA from beyond the arc, .503 fg% and about 18 ppg. But, there's got to be a reason he's getting traded. There has been some previous problems with him and his teammates in the past. His game is somewhat similar to Mike Miller's. It would be very intresting to see if we could get him and at what price. I'd be reluctant to give up too much knowing about his checkered past, but there's no denying his skills.

If I was C.D., Id make a run at Al Harrington before Wally. Indiana might be inclined to move him with the recent acquisition of Artest, not to mention the knee injury that ended his season. He signed a contract extension to begin next season starting at a reasonable 5 mill. a year.

Also, Piatowski is a FA this season and won't command to much $$$. He's also in the top five in 3 pt % and would be a decent backup to Cat that could provide some offense in our offense depleted team.

Not what we need. Yes, he's a good player, but his teammates hate him because of his selfishness.

The last thing we need is another me-first player when he have our 3 guards.

Wally is better than Mobley, but it's hard to see us making the trade. I don't see him and Steve getting along. Wally is a top SG, though, with some ability to slide to the 3. Also very smart. If I could erase the emotional aspect, sure - It's a big improvement on paper. In real life though, I'd have to get Steve to sign off on it. "Steve, do you want an allstar SG with great court vision and excellent shot selection that hustles and plays D to run with? No? Oh, Ok. I guess being pals is more important than winning. No problem. You da man! "

Wally Szczerbiak does not play better defense than Cuttino Mobley. He's not a hustler either, he's not that fast. I would take Cuttino over Wally anyday.

    Wally is a poor defender.

But, to say he doesn't hustle is horse$hit.

    Cat over Wally? Please.

If we're going to overrate Francis for being an All-Star, why don't we do the same for Wally?

You can keep wally. Finley, who is really a top player in this league, has been killing him. he can shoot and takes good shots, but he's slow and is really being exposed. I think Wally will be traded to the eastern conference. A ricky davis for wally trade makes all the sense to both teams. The wolves needs some athleticism at one of those spots.

Wally is an a-hole, I'll grant you that. Maybe he should end up on the Jazz? Perfect fit. ;). Then we could hate on him, no problem.
The idea of KG at SF with Karl kind of interests, me, too.

I would better guess he'll go for a player + picks. Maybe Spree?
    Who knows.

Wally's stats are better than Cat's, but then, so are Brent Barry's.

    Mobley-Wally
    21.7-18.7 PPG
    4.1-4.8 RPG
    2.5-3.1 APG
    1.47-0.8 SPG
    0.5-0.26 BPG
    43.8%-50.8% FG%
    85%-83.1% FT%
    39.5%-45.5% 3P%
    42.1-38.0 MPG

Mobley wins scoring decisively. Wally wins rebounding a little. Wally wins assists. Mobley clearly wins defensive plays. Wally clearly wins FG%. Mobley slightly wins FT%. Wally clearly wins 3P%.

Wally played more SF, so he should win rebounding. Minnesota's offense was around the top in assists, while we were at the bottom. Wally's a purer shooter, but having a 7'0'' point forward, with floor vision and passing skills better than a lot of PGs can help that, same with 3P%.

Outside of Houston, the vast majority of NBA observers would choose Wally over Cuttino I'd be willing to bet.

Sure, Cuttino is better at creating his own shot, but since when is shooting a low % off balance fadeaway with 2 hands in your FACE a good thing?

I would take Cat over Wally, I think Szerb is a very nice player, but Cat's upside and athleticism win me over.

Both are black holes and need to mature as people, but being Cat is a known quantity and is constantly improving is enough for me to say no.

Also, Steve would not be happy if we traded his best friend in a contract year.

Now if it was AFTER Steve had signed...well...........

    Nah, Still wouldn't do it.

I would take Mobely over Wally. Cuttino has more heart and is much quicker off the dribble. He is a better defensive player. The upside for Mobely is greater in my opinion.

    The chemistry issue:

Wally has a history of fighting with KG who I think is a nice even tempered player.

Any team considering Wally will have to think about his selfishness hurting team chemisty.
